Galactic 19328, Brown and White Tabby DSH, Stray 01/27/18
Behavior:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Galactic was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Immediately hisses and charges towards front of cage when opened.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
01/29/18
Crouched in back of kennel, body tense. Hisses and backs away as I lift the cage cover, ears flattening and tail wrapping around body. Maintains eye contact. Uncomfortable,
Needs more time to adjust.
01/30/18
Seems uncertain, meows softly and inches away when I call his name. Tail lowered, pupils partially dilated. He sniffs my hand and accepts gentle petting on his head. Perks up, arches his back and leans in for rubs on his cheeks. Seems more relaxed and comfortable with attention today. He does vocalize and whip around when pet for too long. Needs more time, doing well!
01/31/18
Timid and unsure of his surroundings. He lowers his body and stress meows when you approach the kennel. He was a little skittish because of all the people in the room, but he slowly started to relax once they left. He sniffs my hand, then slowly leans in for rubs and pets on his head. Gives head butts and arches his back when pet along his body. Doing well! He’s very curious of his surroundings and tries to hop out the cage to explore. Needs a little more time to adjust. Offered treats.
02/01/18
At front of kennel, leaning against door and rolling over onto his side. He tilts his ears as the cage door opens and allows petting along his head and body while leaning in and raising his tail. He allows a few more passes along his head and body before tensing up and backing away, ears tilting. Raises paw. May have gotten upset because I prevented him from jumping out of his kennel. Possibly showing signs of petting induced aggression. Continues to solicit attention after interaction has ended. Ate all treats given.
02/03/18
Rolling around playfully in his litter box. He sniffs my hand, chirps and gently rubs up for attention. He pauses when the door opens and becomes focused on his surroundings. His tail sways from side to side when pet. Shows possible signs of over stimulation or petting induced aggression. He raises his paw and his ears bend back when pet for an extended period of time. Very food motivated- loved tuna. Doing well.
02/04/18
At front of kennel as I approach, ears forward as he makes eye contact and vocalizes. Leans against kennel door and rolls over onto side, then begins to roll around the kennel floor. He stands up when I open the door and tilts his ears, tail dropping. Aware of surroundings. He warms up again once touched and allows petting along his head and body while leaning in, tail raising. Tail begins to wave back and forth with continued interaction but he offers no further reaction for the remainder of the session. Ate all treats given. Did well today!
02/05/18
At front of kennel, rolling around kennel floor and reaching out towards me with soft paws. He stands up and tilts his ears as the cage door opens, then leans in for petting. Tail raises and begins to wave back and forth. I pet him a few more times then take out the laser pointer and play with him for a few more minutes. My intention was to clicker train but he’s not too interested in treats today. Playful and energetic – shows possible signs of overstimulation.
Cage Condition:
Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:
Galactic was lying down near the back of the kennel with his paws folded under his body. He makes eye contact with the assessor and meows softly.
Reaction when softly spoken to:
Galactic seems unsure of his surroundings and meows softly with wide, dilated eyes.
Reaction to cage door opening:
Galactic remains calm and slowly comes forward.
Reaction to touch:
Galactic keeps his tail lowered and slowly leans out the kennel to observe his surroundings. He seems hesitant and leans away at first but slowly warms up with attention. He vocalizes when touched and leans in for rubs on his cheeks. His tail fully pilo-erects and he quickly whips around when pet along his body for too long.
