Behavior Notes: Upon approaching cat it was Hissing, growling, swatting, attempting to bite when I reached toward cat trap door
KNOWN HISTORY:: Frappe was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 1/28/18 Observed Behavior – Fractious
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 1/29/18 Lying down by the back with his ears tilted sideways. His ears flatten against his head more when coaxed, but he keeps a low gaze and blinks. Slowly gets up and shifts backwards as cage door opens and starts to grumble. Not ready to interact yet. Did not show interest in treats. 02/01/18 Lying down by the back, neutral. His ears tilt sideways when coaxed and he lowers his head. He becomes stiff and alert when door opens, focuses on my hand, and only tolerates brief and gentle touch before he starts to growl loudly. Did not interact further to prevent stress.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Frappe remains crouched position on his cage bedding during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Frappe becomes alert with eyes wide open, pupils normal.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Frappe began to hiss and low growl with ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Frappe withdraws from the assessor’s hand, squints eyes while growling and hissing preventing the interaction from moving forward.

Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Frappe is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
