***SAFE 06/27/17*** VERY SWEET SENIOR FRANCES IS 10 YRS OLD AND WAS DUMPED BECAUSE OWNER IS MOVING OUT OF STATE. Gee we didn’t know that other states don’t allow cats?? How do you leave such a sweet, affectionate, playful cat behind? FRANCES caught the shelter cold and now only has until NOON to be rescued. 06/09/17 08:55 BASIC INFORMATION: Frances is an orange tabby with white that is 10 years old and neutered. Frances was a gift to the owner by a neighbor. The owner is surrendering Frances due to moving to another state. Frances has no known illness. SOCIALIZATION: Frances has lived with one adult in the home. When stranger come over him is shy and keeps his distances. But after a few days he will approach and lean in for affection. He has never been around children so his behavior is unknown. He has never lived with dogs. But he has interacted with one male cat. Frances keeps his distance with the other cat and does not interact. BEHAVIOR: Frances has never had a bite history. When he plays sometimes he plays rough. Frances has never received a bath, has never trimmed her nails but he enjoys his coat brushed. He walks into his cat carrier. He uses his scratching post made out of carpet. FOR NEW FAMILIES TO KNOW: Frances is described as playful, sometimes shy and affectionate. Frances is relaxed when goes on trip in the car. He leans in for affectionate when the owner arrives home. His favorite cat food is Purina or Friskies (wet or dry). He loves to look out the window. His favorite toys are plastic spoons and pipe cleaners that likes to toss around. Frances will lie down next to you and enjoy being petted.

KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: One adult Behavior toward strangers: Shy and keeps his distance, but will approach and lean in for attention after a few days Behavior toward children: Unknown Behavior toward cats: Keeps his distance and does not interact Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Bite or Scratch history: No bite history Litter box training: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Frances is described as playful, sometimes shy and affectionate. Other notes: Frances is relaxed when goes on trip in the car. He leans in for affectionate when the owner arrives home. He loves to look out the window. His favorite toys are plastic spoons and pipe cleaners that likes to toss around. Frances will lie down next to you and enjoy being petted. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – allows all handling, no aggression ENRICHMENT NOTES: 06/11/17 Lying in back of kennel with a low body and tilted ears. He hisses when I touch him on the head and raises his paw, body tense. I place a treat in front of him and he eats it. I do a clicker training session, first just clicking and giving him treats to build an association and to gauge how close he’s willing to come towards me for a treat. I reward him each time he allows touch along the head while remaining calm. Not yet ready for petting. Needs more time to adjust. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Frances was calm and relaxed upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Frances looks at the assessor and averts his gaze. Reaction to cage door opening: Frances becomes alert, but remains in place. Reaction to touch: Frances was hesitant and lip licks, but he sniffs the assessor’s hand. He allows gentle petting with a slow approach, but turns his head around to look at the assessor’s hand when touched along his back. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Cannot evaluate in shelter VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Calm RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced cat parent – Frances tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may need time to warm up to his new home and family. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
