MACC recommends keeping both cats together as they seem to be bonded Forest is mildly dehydrated, and has some embedded nails on her front paws. She also has a dermal mass on her chest that is slightly ulcerated. Needs follow up medical. She was brought in today because her finder thought she was sick. She has no known injuries or health concerns. Behavior during intake: When approached Forest had a low tense body. He allowed me to collar and pet him.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Bold, Timid KNOWN HISTORY: Forest was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 8/30/17- Observed Behavior – hissing, tense, examination with towel and gloves ENRICHMENT NOTES: 8/30/17 Mass on chest, embedded nails, dehydrated, underweight. Crouched towards back of cage, tense posture, eyes dilated, whiskers forward. Stayed hunched in place when door opened, slowly turned head away when pet. No other response. 8/31/17 Resting at back of cubby, eyes dilated. Lay in place when door opened, flinched slightly and looked away when touched. No other response. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Forest remains tense, crouched position hiding in the cage cubby during the approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Forest began to eye wander and lip lick in place. Reaction to cage door opening: Forest eyes dilated, shrinks in place, ears erect and forward. Reaction to touch: Forest distance increased, but when touched no response with the interaction. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Forest tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.

DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 6 years Microchip noted on Intake? no History : stray, arrived with another cat in same carrier (vision) Subjective: BAR, hydrated Observed Behavior – hissing, tense, examination with towel and gloves Evidence of Cruelty seen – no Evidence of Trauma seen – no Objective P = 120 R = 20 BCS: 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal discharge noted Oral Exam: negative oral PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: female intact suspected but cannot confirm due to behaviour (in net) MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, ventral sternal dermal mass, slightly ulcerated. Nails imbedded in front paws, matted haircoat. CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment: recommend sedate, shave for spay scar, shave matts. check tumor, nail trim, soak paws if needed. Plan: continue to monitor at MACC, recommend keeping both cats (vision and forest) together if possible Prognosis: good SURGERY: temporary waiver for surgery, evaluate tumor and check for spay scar, trim claws first.

Hx: Came in with embedded nails and mammary tumor, and mats. Sedated today with hydromorphone 0.1 ml and Dexdomitor 0.25 ml IM for shaving and nail trimming. Left front foot: nail on digit 3 was embedded – clipped to reveal some bleeding and an ulcer on the digit pad. Right front foot: nail on digit 2 was embedded – clipped to reveal some bleeding and an ulcer on the digit pad, as well as a full-thickness wound through the skin on the dorsal aspect of the foot, between digits 2 and 3. Large (4 cm dia) cystic mass associated with the right cranial mammary gland. Normal overlying skin. No spay scar seen. Onsior 6 mg tab, 1 tab PO SID x3 days – if not eating, okay to switch to injectable 20 mg/ml 0.3 ml SQ SID. Use Yesterday’s News litter until foot ulcers resolve. Permanent ACC surgery waiver due to mammary mass. 1088
