*** SAFE 05/31/17 *** Meet Flex: This cat is shy at first but can be friendly once he gets to know you. He likes to play with strings and rubber balls. He is a senior cat and very mellow, and would really appreciate a warm basket to sleep in. Can you help this guy find a nice home? 15 year old FLEX is a big boy at 17 lbs!! His owner dumped him for “cost” and now he needs a new home. He is super handsome, calm and friendly.

05/17/17 10:30 Basic information: Flex is a 15 yr. old male domestic short hair mix. The owner surrendered Flex because of personal problems. Flex has no health problems and the owner has not taken him to a vet. Socialization: The owner states that around strangers Flex is shy but friendly. Flex has lived with children between the ages of 7 and 10 years old however Flex does not like to interact with the children (he keeps his distance). Flex has never been around other pets so the owner has no idea how Flex would react around them. Flex has never bitten or scratched anyone. Behavior: Flex does not like being bathed, has never had his nails trimmed, does not mind having his coat brushed and hates being picked up and being placed in a cat carrier (he will struggle with the person). For a new family to know: The owner describes Flex shy but friendly cat with a medium activity level. Flex has played with rubber ball and string cat toys; he lives mostly indoors and sleeps anywhere in the house that he wants. In the home Flex will follow the owner around and prefers to stay in same room as the owner. Flex eats Sisco brand dry cat food and is feed once a day. He is litter box trained and uses an uncovered litter box with clumping litter. Flex had a scratching box made out of card board which he often uses. Behavior during intake: During intake Flex was very tense with stiff body, he allowed us to scan (-) put on collar, photographed and placed in a cat kennel.

Energy level/descriptors: The owner describes Flex shy but friendly cat with a medium activity level. Other notes: In the home Flex will follow the owner around and prefers to stay in same room as the owner. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Subjective: Calm, allows all handling EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Flex makes eye contact with the assessor and remains calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Flex looks and then looks away, appearing unsure. Reaction to cage door opening: Flex becomes alert and slowly walks into his main kennel area. Reaction to touch: Flex was hesitant, but he sniffs the assessor’s hand and accepts gentle petting. He lies down and curls up when pet on his head, but focuses on petting when touched on his back, the end of his tail flicking slightly. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Timid, Sweet RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced cat parent – Flex tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Due to his stress level in the shelter, any future home with children should conduct a thorough interaction before adopting.
