***SAFE 10/27/17*** HANDSOME FILIP IS A SHY AND SWEET BOY WHOSE OWNER BECAME ILL AND COULD NO LONGER CARE FOR HIM…….8 year old Filip was brought to the shelter when his owner became sick. He is already neutered, but has a few dental issues which should have follow up care – give this handsome boy a home! FILIP IS AVERAGE RATED AND WOULD LOVE TO BE YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND! RESERVE HIM BY NOON!!

Hello, my name is Filip. My animal id is #9976. I am a desexed male gray cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 8 years 1 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 17-Oct-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person health – medical.
Filip 9976 is at risk for an upper respiratory infection (URI). Please also note that he is overweight and has dental disease. Behaviorally, he was initially nervous and shy, but he has acclimated in the care center and appreciates petting and attention, rolling over and leaning in for rubs. We recommend adopters with an average amount of experience for this cat.

Slightly tense but allowed all handling Evidence of Cruelty seen – no Evidence of Trauma seen – no Objective P = WNL R = WNL BCS 6/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal discharge noted Oral Exam: Mild dental tartar/gingivitis, halitosis PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Neutered MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment: Mild dental disease, overweight Plan: Continue to monitor while at BACC. Rec dental prophylaxis in near future Prognosis: Excellent
URI noted on rounds S/O: QAR. Hissing on approach. Appetite OK EENT: Eyes clear, moderate serous nasal discharge HL: Sneezing, sneeze marks in cage, normal RR/RE A: URI P: Rec doxycycline 1.2ml PO q24 x 10 days. Excellent prognosis

Behavior Condition: 2. Blue
Filip was very loose bodied during the initial intake when he was moved out his carrier into another. When counselor went to get him back out, Filip heard the kittens meow on the other side and his ears went flat. He did not his hiss or growl at counselor.

Basic Information:: Filip is an 8 year old neutered grey and white cat. He was adopted from a shelter and she has had him for around 8 years. The owner’s health is declining and she feels she cannot care for him any longer.

How is this cat around strangers?: Filip is shy and will hide for days.
How is this cat around children?: Filip has not been around children.
How is this cat around other cats?: Filip has lived with 6 other cats throughout his life. He is reported to be relaxed and affectionate around them. He played gently with the other cats.
How is this cat around dogs?: Filip has not lived with dogs so his behavior is unknown.
Behavior Notes: Owner reported no behavioral problems with Filip.
Bite history:: Filip has not bitten a person or another animal.
Energy level/descriptors:: Low.
Has this cat ever had any medical issues?: No
Medical Notes: No known medical issues.
For a New Family to Know: The owner has not given Filip a bath, is not bothered by having his nails trimmed or being brushed out. He enjoys being picked up and does not like being placed in a carrier. He is described as a friendly, affectionate, and mellow. He likes to play with his balls and was kept indoors only. He is use to using an uncovered litter box with clumping litter. He does not scratch on furniture.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Slightly tense but allowed all handling
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 10/18/17 Lying in back of kennel, body flat and face pressed up against kennel wall. He tolerates petting along his head and body while turning to smell my hand, then turning head back to face away from me with ears tilted. Licks lips. Nervous, needs more time to adjust. 10/19/17 Lying in back of kennel with a flat body, face pressed up against kennel door and partially hidden behind kuranda bed. He tolerates petting, turning his head to sniff my hand and flattening his ears. Licks lips and begins to rapid breathe with continued petting. Not interested in treats at the moment. Needs more time to adjust.
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Filip was curled tight and watching the assessor with wide eyes from on top his kuranda bed.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Filip lip licks and doesn’t come forward when coaxed.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Filip’s eyes widen and he becomes alert.
Reaction to touch:: Filip appears hesitant, lip licks and leans away when approached. He slowly starts to warm up after a few soft pets then gently nudges the assessor’s hand, rolls over on his side and gives head butts. He gains some confidence then hops down from his perch and comes forward seeking attention.
Reaction to being picked up:: Filip was tense when picked up, then got antsy and leaped back into the kennel.
