Feta A1118087 was placed At Risk for an Experienced Behavior determination; He appears wary of his surroundings and seems to prefer to hide under blankets or inside his cat den. He is social with people and has been displaying progress throughout his stay in the shelter. He will come forward and leans in for petting, even climbing on top of the assessor’s lap to nuzzle against them. He is very sweet and affectionate during interactions, but will return to hide when interaction ends.

07/10/17 16:57 Limited profile, stray cat. Feta allowed finder to scruff him and put in trap. These are unsocialized cats that have not interacted with humans since they were kittens. Feta was isolated from the other cats in the home. He did not hiss or swat at counselors, he was also quiet in the carrier.

KNOWN HISTORY: Previously lived with: Adults Behavior toward strangers: Shy and hides Behavior toward children: Unknown Behavior toward cats: Relaxed and respectful Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Bite or Scratch history: None Litter box training: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Shy with a low activity level Other notes: He enjoys having his coat brushed and doesn’t like being picked up/ held and will jump out of your arms. He likes playing with laser pointers and string toys. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Tries to get away but no aggression ENRICHMENT NOTES: 07/11/17 Lying in back of kennel with a low body. He sniffs my hand and tolerates petting along his head and body while turning to watch my hand, eyes wide while shifting his weight. Needs more time to adjust. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Feta was curled up tight with his tail wrapped around his body in the litter box. Reaction when softly spoken to: Feta sinks lower into the litter box and tries to avoid eye contact. Reaction to cage door opening: Feta remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Feta sniffs the assessor’s hand and accepts gentle pets on his head. He shifts his body weight, raises his rear and slowly tilts his head allowing rubs on his cheeks. He appreciates attention but stays in his litter box where he feels confident. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced cat parent – Feta may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
