Hello, my name is Felix. My animal id is #16594. I am a desexed male black cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 2 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 20-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person health – allergies.
Original Location: 10035
Felix is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Upper Respiratory Infection, which is contagious to other cats. Behaviorally, we suggest that Felix would be best suited to a cat experienced home.

Scanned neg on intake; MC placed during LVT exam History : Surrendered, no health hx provided Subjective: Alert, at the back of the kennel Observed Behavior – Tense, leans forward to sniff my hand, allows all handling Objective BAR-H, MMs pale pink, BCS 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: Clean adult teeth PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Male intact, testicles S/S MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: Normal externally Assessment: Apparently healthy Prognosis: Excellent Plan: Neuter, adoption SURGERY: Okay for surgery 1088

Hx: Neutered at ASPCA on 12/23. S: Quiet in kennel, allows all handling O: Scrotum is small, no swelling, bruising, erythema or discharge. No pain on palpation. A: Healing well from neuter P: No tx needed at this time 1088

Recheck for poss. URI: Quiet, mildly depressed, decreased appetite – mild/mod mucopurulent nasal discharge/sneeze A: mod URI vs other P: 1.0 ml Doxy (50 mg/ml) PO SID x 10 days + 0.45 ml Cerenia SQ SID x 3 days + 100 ml LRS SQ SID x 3 days + 1/4 Mirtazapine 15 mg tab PO EOD x 3 doses + recheck

Behavior Condition: 2. Blue
Upon intake Felix allowed minimal handling. Once approached he was lip licking continuously and remained to the back of the carrier. He allowed counselor to collar him however when attempting to remove from the carrier he tensed up and his face towards the back of the carrier. No further handling was performed and picture was taken while inside the carrier.
If yes, Please elaborate:: Felix has no reported litter box issues
Basic Information:: Felix is a roughly 2 year old cat whom was surrendered with 6 other cats and kept in the same home his entire life. Unfortunately due to allergies he could not be kept.

How is this cat around children?: Around children he is described as respectful and plays gentle
How is this cat around other cats?: Around cats he is described as relaxed and plays exuberantly
How is this cat around dogs?: Around small dogs he is described as very tolerant
Behavior Notes: This cat is known to have no behavior concerns and will sleep during car rides. He isn’t bothered with having his nails trimmed, being brushed or being disturbed while asleep. He will struggle during bath time, when being picked up and when being placed in a carrier.

For a New Family to Know: This cat is described as friendly, affectionate, mellow, shy and independent. He will follow you around when home with you, likes catnip toys and balls and was being fed 9 lives dry food 2 times a day. He had an uncovered litter box with clumping litter and a scratching post made of carpet.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 12/21 Observed Behavior – Tense, leans forward to sniff my hand, allows all handling
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/21/17 Just returned from medical exam. Crouched in litter box, tense, eyes dilated. Became alert when door opened. Lay in place, allowed and slightly leaned into pets, remained wary. Ate treats after door closed. 12/26/17 Curled up at back behind litter box, head down, eyes fully dilated. Lay in place when door opened, slowly started eating nearby treats. Allowed touch, seemed to warm up after a minute, started to lean into pets and purred loudly. Remained a little wary, unwilling to come forward for more treats. 12/27/17 Curled up at back, head down, eyes fully dilated, wary. Lay in place when door opened, tense posture, started eating offered treats. Flinched slightly when first touched, then leaned into pets, purred. Ate treats from my hand with some coaxing. 12/28/17 Moved up to adoptions. Curled up asleep behind litter box, woke when door opened. Lay in place, soft posture, eyes somewhat dilated. Allowed touch, started eating offered treats, then stood, leaned hard, arched into pets, purred. Stuck head out to main compartment to eat nearby treats, wouldn’t come all the way out. 12/31/17 Curled up asleep in litter box, woke when spoken to. Immediately stood when door opened, head-butted, leaned and arched into pets, purred. Ate treats from my hand, stuck head out to main compartment for more.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Felix remains tense, crouched position with head down at the back of the cage.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Felix becomes alert with eyes wide open.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Felix tightly curls up in place, lip licks, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Felix seems unsure and attempts to run into the other side of the cage, but eventually stiffens up in place when touched. He slightly leans into the assessor’s hand, but remains cautious with eyes wandering towards sudden noises in the room.
