KNOWN HISTORY: Escanaba was brought in without information on his behavior in his previous home. He allowed all handling during the intake process. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – allows exam, nervous EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Escanaba was looking at the assessor, calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Escanaba looks at the assessor and appears tense while lip licking. Reaction to cage door opening: Escanaba becomes alert, but remains in place. Reaction to touch: Escanaba was hesitant and shifts away from the assessor’s hand when extended, but he allows gentle petting with a slow approach. He appears unsure, but warms up slightly when rubbed on his head. He continues to look around, however, and appears wary of his surroundings. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Calm RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced cat parents – Casper tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may need time to warm up to his new home and family. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
