*** SAFE 07/27/17 *** Eminem came in with other kitties and is the most nervous out of the 3. She could use a bit more socialization out of the shelter environment. Kanye and Apache are doing well and come to front of the cage in adoptions however, Eminem still retreats to the back

07/23/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Name and A#: Eminem A1118840 Date: 7/23/2017 KNOWN HISTORY: Eminem came to the shelter as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment. During intake, Eminem was fractious and running around her crate and was difficult to transfer to a den. Once in a den, Eminem attempted to flee. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: During her initial medical exam, Eminem was growling/hissing and attempted to flee EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Eminem was hiding in her den. Reaction when softly spoken to: Eminem looked at the assessor with wide eyes, vocalizing loudly. Reaction to cage door opening: Eminem continued vocalizing loudly without approaching or attempting to flee. Reaction to touch: Eminem flinched and backed away, continuing to vocalize loudly. She allowed all petting on sides and cheeks. Reaction to being picked up: Eminem tolerated being picked up for a few seconds and then fled back to the den. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Talkative CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Insistent POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: – Kitten socialization Eminem is a young cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. She may be apprehensive of people, but the behavior team believes she has potential to warm up to people. Kittens less than 8 weeks of age can be socialized by almost anyone; however, kittens between 2-4 months may require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people. Please speak to an adoption counselor to learn more about socialization techniques. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: During assessment, Eminem exhibited no aggressive behavior but remained tense and fearful. However, since intake Eminem has shown a steady behavior of attempting to flee, swatting (without striking), hissing and spitting. RECOMMENDATIONS: _X_ Experienced, Adult Only Eminem tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
