Hello, my name is Emile. My animal id is #14733. I am a desexed male white cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 9 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a stray on 27-Nov-2017.
Emile is at risk for behavior concerns (Experience determination). Mango allows petting but shutters away and becomes very uncomfortable from different noises and other stimuli in the care center.

Basic Information:: Emile is a 9 year old, white and gray, DMH male. He was neutered prior to coming into the shelter and was adopted from BACC about 8 years ago. The owners health is declining and they can no longer care for the cat. he has no known health issues or injuries, and has not seen a vet recently. Profile is limited as her owner was not able to come in to surrender.

How is this cat around strangers?: Emile is shy for a few minutes when meeting new people but will warm up after adjusting.
How is this cat around children?: Emile has spent time around children and is relaxed and affectionate with them.
How is this cat around other cats?: Emile has not spent time around other cats.
How is this cat around dogs?: Emile has not spent time with dogs.
Behavior Notes: Emile is quiet in the car.

For a New Family to Know: emile is described as being shy and aloof. He will follow his owner around when they are home and likes to play with toy balls. He has been mainly an indoor cat and sleeps on his owners bed. He eats both wet and dry food and is litter box trained using an uncovered litter box. He does not scratch.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Nervous, flat, and tense in carrier Easily handle able. Did well for all medical handling and procedures
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 11/29/17 Lying in back of kennel with a tense body. Tolerates petting along head and body while turning head slowly to watch my hand with wide eyes. Nervous – needs more time to adjust.
Cage Condition:: Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:: Emile was tense and pressed up against the back of the back wall of the kennel
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Emile tenses up and slowly turns his head and faces the wall.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Emile remains motionless.
Reaction to touch:: Emile lip licks and tenses up when the assessor gently pets him on his back. He seems uncomfortable with contact and remains completely immobile throughout the interaction.

Potential challenges comments:: Emile has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
