I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 08/29/2016 from NY 10458, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

09/01/16 14:18 PE similar to yesterday QAR mild dehydration serous nasal and ocular d/c blood work shows increased kidney values and hemoconcentration add 100cc lrs sq bid, add baytril to rule out pyelonephritis prognosis is guarded to poor. cats like this can be maintained for long periods with daily sqf, but the respiratoey infection complcates matters 08/31/16 16:06 eating well possible pu/pd heavy nasal and ocular d/c (uri) will run BG to rule out DM 8/30 VC – GERIATRIC, POSSIBLE URI, EMACIATED, DEHYDRATED AND NO TEETH—-PLEASE CHECK 08/31/16 16:06S/O BCS 4/9, muscle wasting EENT – mucoid-mucopurulent ocular and nasal discharge Missing most of teeth Heart/lungs – grade III-IV/VI murmur Appears to have small amount of dried diarrhea in litterbox and on fur Appears to be drinking and licked some wet food, but not interested in dry A: Geriatric underlying – dehydrated, URI, heart murmur, diarrhea? P: Recommend moving to medical or to ISO with medical is aware sign. Start on doxycycline and LRS. Monitor appetite and for diarrhea. PROGNOSIS: Poor-Guarded

Elbert was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. The finder found him on the street and reports he appeared ill. The finder was able to pick him up and bring him to the care center. He allowed all handling upon intake and was friendly during his initial medical exam. Please note that Elbert is being treated for an upper respiratory infection at the time of the behavior assessment. This condition may affect some of the behaviors shown during evaluation. Reaction to assessor: Elbert was lying down, calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Elbert looks at the assessor with soft eyes. Reaction to cage door opening: Elbert remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Elbert accepts petting and leans in for touch. He begins to purr and seems to appreciate attention. Reaction to being picked up: Elbert remains soft and calmly lies on the assessor’s arms. Behavior Determination: Average Elbert interacts with the Assessor, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
