Hello, my name is Echo. My animal id is #12327. I am a male brown tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 3 months 1 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 11-Nov-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person health – allergies.
Echo is being placed at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection which is contagious to other cats. Echo will likely require in home care with a course of antibiotics. There are no known behavior concerns for Echo at this time, average determination.

Basic Information:: Echo is a brown tabby and white male cat that was surrendered by owner due to allergies. Owner got him from a friend as a three month old kitten and had him for one year. Echo has no visible signs of illness or injuries.

How is this cat around strangers?: He is is friendly and outgoing but needs some time getting to know you before playing with you.
How is this cat around children?: He is relaxed, affectionate and respectful around children. He is very gentle when he plays with owner’s daughter and sleeps on the same bed with her.

How is this cat around dogs?: He is relaxed, affectionate and respectful around dogs. He runs around the home and plays with owner’s nine year old male dog all day
Behavior Notes: Echo sometimes scratches on furniture and meows when riding in a car. He enjoys his coat brushed and loves to be picked up and held like a little kid. He isn’t bothered if placed in a carrier or disturbed while sleeping.

For a New Family to Know: Echo is a friendly, affectionate, playful and mellow cat. He loves to snuggle and be in the same bed with people and loves to play with balls and catnip toys. He follows you around and be in the same room with you at home. He was kept indoors only, slept on owner’s daughters bed and was fed only dry cat food three times daily. He used an uncovered litter box with clay litter and scratched on a smooth wood scratch post.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Subjective: Nervous but no signs of aggression and good during PE
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 11/12/17 Sitting up in cubby, soft eyes and body, grooming. Became alert when door opened, eyes became dilated. Leaned away from touch, some lip licking. Ate treats within reach, unwilling to leave cubby. Sprayed thunderease. 11/13/17 Asleep in cubby, woke on approach. Sat up and became alert when door opened. Ate offered treats, repeatedly leaned away to avoid pets. Easily lured out to shelf with treats, sniffed my hand between the bars. Went right back into cubby after eating nearby treats. Sprayed thunderease. 11/14/17 Big improvement! Resting in cubby, soft eyes and body. Stood and came forward when door opened. Still a little unsure, but allowed and started leaning and arching into pets! Ate offered treats, then poked front half into main compartment for more. Sniffed hand between bars after door closed, unwilling to move all the way out of cubby.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Echo remains neutral, lying down on his cage bedding during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Echo becomes alert with eyes wide open.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Echo began to lip lick in place, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Echo seems unsure, slowly increases distance while looking around his surroundings. However, after a few minutes he warms up and began to allow the petting slowly leaning into the assessor’s hand.
Reaction to being picked up:: He becomes antsy then jumps back into the cage.
