Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Dylan was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He allowed all handling to be conducted upon intake, but did not show interest in wet food when offered. He ate a few treats, however. The medical team reports he was sociable during his initial medical exam, and allowed them to handle him as well. The enrichment team reports he was nervous and unsure during their first interaction, lying down in his litter box. He appeared alert, but allowed them to pet him all over his body. Reaction to assessor: Dylan was lying down, calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Dylan looks around and starts to breathe rapidly. His eyes dart from the assessor and towards his surroundings. Reaction to cage door opening: Dylan becomes alert, but remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Dylan sniffs the assessor’s hand and was hesitant of contact initially, but he slowly warms up and begins to purr. He leans in for cheek rubs, closes his eyes, and lifts his rear slightly when touched on his lower back. He seems to appreciate petting and attention, but appears wary of his surroundings. Reaction to pick up: Dylan is tense during pick up, but remains calm when held. Behavior Determination: Experienced Dylan appreciates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
