08/29/17 18:34 Dusty is an 7 year old dilute torbie spayed cat who was surrendered by her owner due to the act she is moving and can no longer have pets in the home. The owner stated that she found Dusty outside when she was 6 weeks old and she has had her for the past 8 years. Owner states that Dusty has no known medical issues. Owner stated that when around strangers she is shy for a few minutes but will warm up. She has spent time around children all ages and her owner stated that she is fearful and will hiss at the children when they approach her. Owner stated that Dusty does not play with children but when she plays with adults she is gentle. Dusty has not spent time around other cats or dogs so it is unknown how she will react. Owner state that Dusty has never bitten another animal or a person before. Owner stated that Dusty does scratch on the furniture in the home even though she has a scratching post made out of carpet. On the way to the ACC in the car she was meowing and crying. When dusty is being bathed or having her nails trimmed she will struggle to get away. Dusty enjoys being held and brushed. She isn’t bothered if she is disturbed while she sleeps. When being put in the carrier she struggled to get away. Owner described Dusty as friendly at times, playful shy and fearful with a medium activity level. When at home she will follow her owner around. She likes to play with balls and string. She has been kept indoors only and prefers to eat dry food. The owner stated that when she feeds Dusty she eats very fast and will vomit so she gives her the food half at a time. Dusty is very much litter box trained and never has accidents. She is used to an uncovered litter box with clumping litter. Owner stated that she does scratch on the couch even though she has a scratching post made out of carpet.

Other notes: She enjoys being held and brushed, and struggles to get away when placed in a carrier. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: striking, ears back, hissing. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 08/30/17 Lying In back of kennel with a low body. She begins to growl, lifting head slightly and flattening her ears. Tolerates petting along head and body while turning head to watch my hand. Body is tense. 08/31/17 Lying in back of kennel. Makes eye contact and growls. She moves her head forward to sniff the bear-claw and tolerates petting along her head and body , tilting her ears and continuing to growl. Keeps turning head to smell the bear-claw. Does not strike or hiss when pet for the duration of the interaction, but does continue to growl. Needs some more time to adjust. Not interested in treats today. 09/01/17 Curled up in the back of the cage, tail wrapped at her side. Ears bent slightly, she starts to grumble when the cage door opens. Constantly lip licking, eyes dart around scanning her surroundings. She inches forward to sniff my hand, accepts petting and attention. Her eyes close when rubbed on her cheeks, appreciates attention. Leans against my hand, gives head butts and sits up when I pet her along her body. Still a little skittish, wary of her surroundings. Pauses and becomes focused whenever she sees or hears anything going on outside. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Sweet RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced, adult home only – Dusty may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Dusty may have some behavioral issues that will need to be addressed in the home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
