***SAFE 07/15/17***ONE YEAR OLD DUNE came in with a group of hoarding cats – he is missing his nails on his front feet (not intentionally declawed) and needs rescue.

I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 07/10/2017 from NY 10033, owner surrender reason stated was HOARDING. I came in with Group/Litter #K17-102181.

Dune A1118045 is at risk due to behavior. Dune displays fearful behaviors in the shelter environment and attempts to hide behind blankets. When uncovered, he looks at the assessor with wide eyes and hisses. He does not allow petting at this time and will hiss, growl, and strike when petting is attempted.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Steady VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Bold, Timid MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 7/11/17- Observed Behavior – unsocialized, will flee; hisses ENRICHMENT NOTES: 7/11/17- Crouched low, extremely tense, eyes dilated. Started hissing when door opened. Backed up one step when attempted touch, then struck assess-a-hand hard. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Dune looks tense, crouched position in her litter box during the approach. Reaction to cage door opening: Dune began to hiss and growl with eyes dilated. Reaction to touch: Dune avoids contact, hisses and spits while distance increases further to the back of the cage. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Dune is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
