*** SAFE 12/30/17 *** Cheeto and Dorito make a perfect pair of young kitties! Both are sweet, Dorito a little shy at first and seems to love his mate. They came in with a kitty cold and currently on treatment. BOTH LISTED TONIGHT!

Hello, my name is Dorito. My animal id is #16623. I am a male black cat at the Staten Island Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 6 months old. – P
I came into the shelter as a stray on 20-Dec-2017.
Dorito is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection which is contagious to other cats. Dorito will likely require in home care with a course of antibiotics. Dorito should go to an experienced cat owner that will allow him to acclimate at his own pace.

Barh Male ~ 6 months Scan negative Ambx4 EENT: wnl Nervous , tense body but allowed to handle. Has some skin issues No fleas seen. NOSF
[DVM Intake] DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 6 months History : stray Subjective: Observed Behavior – tense but tolerated exam well Evidence of Cruelty seen -no Evidence of Trauma seen -no Objective BCS 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, AU- mild brown waxy debris, mild clear nasal discharge seen Oral Exam: clean adult teeth PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupneic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: MI, 2 descended testicles MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, alopecia at inguinal area, patchy alopecia at ears and right shoulder CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment nasal discharge- R/O URI vs other alopecia- R/O flea allergy vs dermatophytosis vs other Prognosis: good Plan: Wood’s Lamp: negative move to isolation start doxycycline 28 mg PO SID x 10 days SURGERY: Temporary waiver due to URI

Behavior during intake: Cat was nervous and timid but allowed being transferred from carrier to carrier without any concerning behavior.
Basic Information:: Finder saves kittens at his place of employment. He then he attempts to rehome them himself but if he is unsuccessful he brings them to SIACC to be adopted.
Previously lived with:: Outdoors
How is this cat around strangers?: Cat is nervous and timid but allows handling.
How is this cat around children?: Unknown
How is this cat around other cats?: Cat was brought in with 2 other kittens.
How is this cat around dogs?: Unknown
KNOWN HISTORY:: Dorito was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: tense but tolerated exam well
Cage Condition:: Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:: Dorito is laying in the back of his kennel with his litermate.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Dorito has no change in body position besides making eye contact with assessor.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Dorito appears alert. His body becomes tense and he watches assessor as the door opens.
Reaction to touch:: Dorito remains in the back of his kennel. He sniffs assessors hand and tolerates petting. He appears slightly uncomfortable.
Reaction to being picked up:: Dorito has a tense body upon pick up. After a short period of time he leaps back into his kennel and retreats to the back with his litter mate.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate
VOCAL:: Quiet

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Kitten socialization
Potential challenges comments:: Dorito is a young cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. He may be apprehensive of people, but the behavior team believes he has potential to warm up to people. Kittens less than 8 weeks of age can be socialized by almost anyone; however, kittens between 2-4 months may require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people. Please speak to an adoption counselor to learn more about socialization techniques.
