02/07/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
02/07/17 17:30 BASIC INFO Donsito A1103141 was born in the home 3 years ago. The main reason for surrender is that there are too many pets and the owner cannot afford to properly care for them. Donsito does not have any health concerns. SOCIALIZATION Donsito is super friendly around stangers and goes up top strangers to greet them. Don lived with a 13 year old child and he was very friendly with the child and played gentle with him. He also plays gentle with adults. Don has lived with other cats and he is friendly with other cats and plays gentle with them. Don has not bitten or scratched anyone. BEHAVIOR The only behavior issue that Don has is that he scratches on a wood wall in the home. He did cry during the car ride here. Don allows you to pick her up, place her in a carrier. He is not bothered if disturbed out of his sleep. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Don is best described as friendly, affectionate and playful. He has a medium activity level. Don scratches at the cabinets when he is hungry. At home, he follows you around. Don has been kept indoors only. He is fed any brand of dry cat food. Owner used an aluminum tray with clay as a litter box. Behavior during intake: Donsito had a low crouched and tense body. When approached his ears went back and he backed away while keeping eye contact. He allowed me to pick him up and pet him but made a low growl when going into a carrier.

02/10/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Litter box training: Y EVALUATION: Cage Condition: no change Reaction to assessor: calm and neutral Reaction when softly spoken to: No response Reaction to cage door opening: Did not come forward Reaction to touch: Allows both assess-a-hand and natural hand to rub him Reaction to being picked up: Became skittish and wouldn’t allow pickup ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: _x_ Fearful – Donsito has displayed fearful behavior during his stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: _x_ Experienced cat parent – Donsito mildly tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.

A volunteer writes: Donsito is a bit timid in the shelter, he would prefer a calm and consistent home. After a brief introduction, we became good friends. He loves ear rubs and chin scratches. This tender soul is a pleasure to be with. He let me pick him up, but let out a little worried meow to let me know it made him nervous. I rewarded him with some crunchy treats which he ate happily. Donsito is a sensitive Romeo looking for a kind Juliet. Give this handsome fellow a gentle loving home and he will reward you with loyal companionship.
