06/08/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Dolphin was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He was calm and relaxed upon intake and allowed all handling. He began to hiss and struggled when being placed into a carrier, but did not attempt to bite or scratch. He did become fractious during his initial medical exam, however. The enrichment facilitator report he was stress meowing and flinches when touched, but has showed improvement and will tilt his head allowing petting the following day. He appears to be easily startled. Reaction to assessor: Dolphin meows softly and looks at the assessor with relaxed eyes. Reaction when softly spoken to: Dolphin meows again in reply and lip licks. Reaction to cage door opening: Dolphin becomes alert, but remains calm. Reaction to touch: Dolphin sniffs the assessor’s hand and leans in for petting. He slowly inches forward and continues to meow during petting (somewhat whiny sounding). He appears to appreciate attention, but his tail remains lowered and he seems wary of the environment. Reaction to pick up: Dolphin shifts away and stress meows. Placement Determination: Experience No Child Dolphin tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
