11/13/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
According to his previous owner, Dino is friendly and outgoing with strangers. Dino has lived with a three-year-old and was respectful and played gently with the child; with adults, Dino was “gentle and exuberant.” He has lived with two other cats, both littermates, and engaged in exuberant play with them. Dino has lived with an eight-year-old Maltese, and was relaxed with and respectful to the dog. The previous owner stated that Dino used a hooded litter box appropriately and was kept mostly indoors. Described as “friendly and quiet,” Dino had a medium activity level in the home of the previous owner. During intake, Dino was receptive to all handling, but during his initial medical exam he hissed, growled, and was difficult to handle by staff. Reaction to assessor: Dino came to the front of the cage and sat upright, didn’t make eye contact, surveyed his surroundings, and meowed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Dino stayed sitting upright at the front of the cage, avoided eye contact, and his meowing turned to low growling. Reaction when cage door opened: Dino stayed right at the front but lied down, kept head low and observed the room, wanted to get out. He occasionally meowed and growled. Reaction to touch: Dino allowed head rubs and some slow passes over body. He didn’t move from lying position at front of cage and remained focused on the room, not the assessor. Dino growled with continued touching. Behavior Determination: Experience No Child Dino tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
