SAFE 4/8/17 A volunteer wrote: Hello, humans! My name is Diego, and I’m wondering if you could help me out—lend me a paw, if you will. I used to live with a few other cats in a home, but my human is very old and can’t take care of us as well as she used to. I really liked being a furry companion, and I really hope to get the chance to do so again. I’m a little out of sorts at the shelter—it’s a very different place with lots of noise and smells and people—but I am keeping my fuzzy chin up. I like it when my human friends come to visit me and give me attention. I hope you will consider helping me find my new forever home where I can feel safe and loved—and love a human back in return!

KNOWN HISTORY:
Diego was brought into the care center with unknown history.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
3/29/17 Observed Behavior – allows handling.
EVALUATION:
Cage Condition: No change
Reaction to assessor: Diego looks tense, crouched position by the front when approached by the assessor.
Reaction to cage door opening: Diego remains in place, alert with eyes dilated.
Reaction to touch: Diego allows the stroke, but quickly sits upright while he leans away from the assessor’s hand and remains cautious with his surroundings.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
VOCAL: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish
RECOMMENDATIONS:
– Experienced, adult home only
Diego tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents.
