Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 3. Yellow
KNOWN HISTORY:: Dexter was brought in as a stray, so there is no information on their behavior history or tendencies in a home environment.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior – Scared, very nervous, will flea. No hissing though.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 10/26/17 Crouched on top of kuranda bed, body tense. Eyes are wide open and she’s frozen in place. Darts away from my hand as I reach towards her, scrambles up wall in an attempt to flee. Nervous – needs more time to adjust. 10/29/17 Crouched in back of kennel with a tense face and body. She begins to growl and whine as I reach towards her. Tolerates petting briefly before retreating through her portal quickly. Repeats this pattern each time I attempt petting her again. I am unable to lure or coax her forward with treats. Needs more time to adjust.
Cage Condition:: Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:: Dexter was lying down, looking at the assessor with wide eyes.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Dexter averts her gaze and looks around, and then looks back at the assessor.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Dexter becomes stiff and alert.
Reaction to touch:: Dexter focuses on the assessor’s hand and grumbles, but allows gentle petting and starts to whine. She is tense and remains motionless. After a few strokes, she stops whining, but lip licks and still appears uncomfortable.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Skittish,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Kitten socialization
Potential challenges comments:: Dexter is a young cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. She may be apprehensive of people, but the behavior team believes she has potential to warm up to people. Kittens less than 8 weeks of age can be socialized by almost anyone; however, kittens between 2-4 months may require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people. Please speak to an adoption counselor to learn more about socialization techniques.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experience
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:: No young children
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Dexter tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by young children. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
