Hello, my name is Dexter. My animal id is #10757. I am a desexed female brown tabby cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 7 months 1 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a aco impound on 25-Oct-2017, with the surrender reason stated as poor choice – too many animals already.
Dexter is at risk for behavior concerns (Experience determination). His has been fearful in care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior. He accepts some petting, but will show discomfort when he’s had enough attention.

[DVM Intake] DVM Intake Exam: 1431 Estimated age: 7 months Microchip noted on Intake? no History : surrender, hoarding case Subjective: BAR, hydrated Observed Behavior – timid but allows exam and treatments with minimal restraint. Evidence of Cruelty seen -no Evidence of Trauma seen -no Objective P = 120 R =wnl BCS: 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: negative oral PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: female intact MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment: in apparent good health Prognosis: good Plan: oropharyngeal swab taken for pcr testing continue to monitor at ACC SURGERY: Okay for surgery

Behavior Condition: 2. Blue
Cat was BAR and allows handing
KNOWN HISTORY:: Dexter was brought in as a stray, so there is no information on their behavior history or tendencies in a home environment. She allowed all handling during intake.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior – timid but allows exam and treatments with minimal restraint.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 10/26/17 Lying in litterbox with a low body, tail wrapped around feet. She tolerates petting along her head and body while tensing and leaning away from me, ears tilted. Licks lips. Needs more time to adjust. 10/29/17 Lying in front of kennel with a tense body. She makes eye contact as I open the kennel door and begins to rapid breathe. Pupils are dilated. She tolerates petting briefly before retreating through her portal quickly, tail tucked between her legs. Very nervous – needs more time to adjust. Not interested in treats at the moment.
Cage Condition:: Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:: Dexter was lying down, looking at the assessor with wide eyes.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Dexter looks at the assessor and looks around with her ears forward.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Dexter gets up and looks around, but lies back down and wraps her tail around her body.
Reaction to touch:: Dexter was hesitant, but sniffs the assessor’s hand and allows petting. She shifts away, but will continue to allow petting and remains in place. Her ears tilt sideways and she appears unsure.
Reaction to being picked up:: Dexter is tense during pick up, but remains calm when held.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Dexter tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may need time to warm up to her new home and family. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
