MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Timid behavior but able to handle
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/14/17 Crouched under kuranda bed, tense, eyes fully dilated, stiff posture. Hissed on approach, then came slightly forward to sniff and gently paw at pipecleaner and pompom toys. Very cautious. After a few minutes, started rolling over, playing energetically with pompom. Hissed when shown assess-a-hand, backed up to be mostly under kuranda bed, still playing with pompom. Hissed again when door opened. Repeatedly sniffed assess-a-hand, lifted paw as if to swat, then head-butted and leaned into pets instead. Seems conflicted, showed no interest in treats. 12/17/17 Moved up to adoptions. Curled up in cat bed at back of cubby, eyes dilated, seems a little lethargic. Lay in place when door opened, curled up tighter. Allowed, then leaned into pets, extended neck for throat scratches, closed eyes. Remained tenses, seemed unsure. 12/18/17 Curled up at back of top cubby, partly under cat bed, tense posture, eyes dilated. Shifted in place and curled up tighter when door opened. Tolerated pets, but stayed completely immobile and closed eyes. Seemed really uncomfortable. 12/19/17 [Clicker training] Curls up and makes himself appear smaller when approached, nervous. He leans against the back wall and lip licks. Shows interest in treats, but too nervous to eat them. Pet him very gently and he started to relax, and then eats treats. Rewarded whenever he allowed petting and he soon started to arch his back and lean in for cheek rubs. He’s still timid, but is very sweet. Curled up at back, dozing. Woke when door opened, shifted in place, curled up tighter, tense. Lay in place but leaned into pets, extended neck for throat scratches and closed eye. Wouldn’t come forward, showed no interest in treats. 12/20/17 Curled up at back of cubby, asleep. Woke when door opened, tensed, curled up tighter. Lay in place, leaned into pets, extended neck for throat scratches, curled up and went back to sleep. Seemed lethargic today. 12/21/17 [Clicker training] Still a bit timid upon approach, but perked up once he smelled tuna. Rewarded each time he allowed petting. He quickly warmed up to touch and was eager to get more treats. He even came all the way to the front of the cubby and arched his body when pet. Has a relaxed body posture today and did very well today. Asleep at back of cubby, head resting on cat bed. Woke when spoken to. Became alert when spoken to, curled up tighter. Lay in place, leaned into pets, closed eyes, purred quietly. Started eating offered treats when door closed. Didn’t flinch or retreat when door opened to give more! Wouldn’t come forward to eat treats that were out of reach. 12/26/17 Huge improvement! Resting on bedding, soft eyes and body. Lay in place when door opened, meowed quietly. Allowed, then started to lean into pets, ate offered treats. When door opened a second time, actually stood, came forward, leaned and arched into pets and purred! Rubbed on bars after door closed!
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
