*** SAFE 04/07/16 *** DELIGHTFUL DELANCEY WAS ABANDONED AT THE ACC AFTER HER ELDERLY OWNER DIED – NOW SHE HAS A COLD AND THE ACC IS PLANNING TO KILL HER ON THURSDAY AFTERNOON! DELANCEY was abandoned at the shelter by someone who said her elderly owner passed away. No other info was given for her but we do know she was someone’s loving pet. DELANCEY is about 7 years old and nervous in the shelter environment, however the staff noted that she just needs some TLC and love to come out of her shell. A staff member writes, “Delancey came from a quiet home and can’t quite figure out where all the racket is coming from in his new house. Though he appears standoff-ish to begin with, it’s really just an outer shell made of candy. Delancey was left at ACC without much information other than that he lived with an older woman who passed away, so he is understandably nervous in the shelter environment. All Delancey needs is a little love and time, and I have no doubt he will blossom into a great house/lap/love cat. Come meet Delancey and fall in love today!” WON’T YOU GIVE DELANCEY A NEW BEGINNING ON LIFE BY OFFERING TO ADOPT OR FOSTER HER? SHE ONLY HAS A COLD WHICH WILL BE GONE WITH A GOOD ROUND OF ANTIBIOTICS. DELANCEY NEEDS A RESCUE ANGEL TONIGHT – CAN THAT BE YOU?? EMAIL THE HELP DESK AT [email protected] FOR RESCUE INFO.

04/05/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Delancy looks neutral in the cage when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Delancy remains crouched position on her cage bedding, alert with soft eyes. Reaction to touch: Delancy stands with tail up, accepts the stroke, but becomes agitated to the touch then hisses and swats at the assessor’s hand. Placement determination: Experience / no child Initially Delancy solicits petting and attention, but after a few soft passes over the body she begins to hiss and swat at the assessor. This may be a sign of petting-induced aggression, where repeated physical contact results in discomfort for the cat, or it may be a sign of overstimulation. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Delancy becomes reactive. Treats should be used to reward appropriate responses to physical attention.
