Hello, my name is Darwin. My animal id is #21084. I am a male orange tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a stray on 19-Feb-2018.
ZIP Code From: 10027
Darwin is at risk due to behavior concerns, Adult Only determination. Darwin continues to hide in kennel and avoid touch. We feel he would benefit from leaving the care center as soon as possible. He does have an abrasion above his eye, but is otherwise apparently healthy.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Darwin was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 2/20/18 Observed Behavior – Scared and nervous, ears down, stays low to the table. Limited PE
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 2/20/18 Curled up in den, completely out of sight. Hissed and whined quietly when spoken to. Showed no interest in treats, stayed out of reach of touch. 2/21/18 In den, no response to door opening or being spoken to. Held still when den rotated, shifted out of sight when door opened. Held completely immobile when pet, no response at all. 2/22/18 On the cat den, alert with pupils dilated. He cowards away, tucking in his head looking around for an exit. He allowed a brief touch, but flinched in place with no interest.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Darwin remains tense, crouched position turned sideways on top of the cat den during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Darwin becomes alert with eyes wide open, pupils dilated.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Darwin stiffens up, head tightly tucked in, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Darwin looked around and flinched when touched, attempting to move away while the interaction was finishing.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Skittish,Independent
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Darwin may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to his new home and family at his own pace.
