KNOWN HISTORY: Darryl was brought in without information on his behavior in his previous home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – allows handling, looking aroound ENRICHMENT NOTES: 05/27/17 Looked uncomfortable. Didn’t want to interact with him too much because of his wound. He was lying down on his bedding, paws folded, tail curled at his side. Whiskers fanned out, eyes focus on me when I called his name. Tense and alert. Remains immobile throughout interaction. He sniffs and accepts petting. Not too interested with interacting with me. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Darryl was resting, lying down by the back. Reaction when softly spoken to: Darryl looks at the assessor and blinks softly. Reaction to cage door opening: Darryl becomes alert, but remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Darryl was hesitant, but he slowly sniffs the assessor’s hand when offered. He pulls away when hand extends over him, but accepts gentle petting and blinks, ears tilting slightly sideways. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Cannot evaluate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Calm BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Please note that this cat is being treated for a medical condition at the time of evaluation. It is difficult to determine at this time how the medical condition may be affecting the behavior. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced cat parent – Darryl tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
