Hello, my name is Dado. My animal id is #12414. I am a male orange cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 12 years 1 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 12-Nov-2017, with the surrender reason stated as animal health – other.
Dado is at risk for behavior concerns (Experience determination). Dado displays conflicted behavior and allows some handling, but he becomes very uncomfortable with extended handling. He hisses when initially touched, but will head-butt gently when the person remains still.

[Spay/Neuter Waiver – Age] It is the policy of ACC not to perform surgery on any animal over the age of 8-10 years due to the higher risks incurred in a shelter setting. The veterinarian is hereby issuing a permanent spay/neuter waiver, from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY due to the estimated age of this animal. ACC does recommend you consult with your veterinarian to determine if surgical sterilization is appropriate.
[DVM Intake] DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: approx. 12yo Microchip noted on Intake? neg History : O surrender. Medical issue with right ear and O can’t afford the care. Subjective: BAR. Good for PE, did not like ears being examined but no signs of aggression. Observed Behavior – Evidence of Cruelty seen – n Evidence of Trauma seen – n Objective T = P = wnl R = eup BCS 4/9 EENT: Eyes clear, no nasal or ocular discharge noted. AD has a visible polyp protruding from the ear, polyp is red/black in color. Both ears have dried blood and scratch wounds on the external pinnae, both canals are irritated, p is pruritic when they are touched. Oral Exam: neg oral, no lesions, mild dental calculus. No polyp palpated under soft palate. PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: MI MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, fair unkempt hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: normal externally. Assessment: geriatric MI DSH, O surrender AD polyp otitis externa/media Prognosis: good Plan: Polyp Removal: Gave telazol 0.08mL IM Removed polyp with curved hemostats. Stalk of polyp extended down ear canal. Polyp was very friable and bled easily. Unsure if all of the polyp was removed. Bleeding was controlled by applying pressure with an epinephrine soaked gauze. Cleaned AS Buprenorphine 0.36mL (0.03mg/kg) SQ x 3d. Simbadol out of stock. Onsior 2mg/kg SQ SID x 3d Convenia 8mg/kg SQ once Claro AD once CTM in medical overnight as AD may start to bleed again. Can move out of medical tomorrow if doing well and no complications overnight. Recheck tomorrow 11/13/17 SURGERY: Permanent waiver due to age
HX: aural polyp A.D., removed yesterday. S/O: BAR, hydrated, eating well EENT: no bleeding from ear, some crust present, but resents deep exam. No anisocoria or head tilt present. Neuro: nsf rest of PE within normal limits. A: 1 day post polyp removal P: continue to monitor, okay for surgery once cleared from medical.
Progress exam-2 day post polyp removal AD History : Intake 11/12-had polyp AD. Was sedated with telazol and polyp removed. Bleeding controlled with epinephrine soaked gauze. Unsure if entire stalk was removed. Started on buprenorphine and onsior. Given one injection of convenia and one dose of claro. Subjective: BAR. No c/s/v/d. Appears comfortable. Has not eaten a lot of his food this morning but is very nervous. Objective EENT: Eyes clear, no nasal or ocular discharge noted. Both ears have dried blood and/or debris in the canal and scratch wounds on the external pinna H/L: eupneic MSI: Ambulatory x 4 CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities, no anisocoria or head tilt Assessment: Geriatric AD polyp-removed 11/12 Otitis externa/media Prognosis: good Plan: Last dose of buprenorphine today Last dose of onsior today Rec recheck with rDVM on placement/adoption. 50% chance of polyp recurrence.

Basic Information:: Dado is an older, orange tabby DSH male. He was taken in as a stray by his owner 8 months ago and she is unsure if he was neutered. He was surrendered due to a medical condition with his ear. He last saw a vet within the last few months.
Previously lived with:: Found as stray and taken in 8 months ago
How is this cat around strangers?: Dado will keep his distance when guests enter the home. He is friendly and approachable with those he knows, but he will growl at unknown males.
How is this cat around children?: Dado has spent time with children but he gets jealous when the adults are playing with the children and not him. He will growl and swat to get attention.
How is this cat around other cats?: Dado has lived with two other cats and he is playful and respectful with them. He will sit and let the other two eat before he starts eating.
How is this cat around dogs?: Dado has not spent time with dogs.
Behavior Notes: Dado’s owner has given him a bath and they are able to do so as long as someone is there to hold him. They have trimmed his nails a few times but he will struggle, he allows them to brush him. He enjoys being picked up and held, he is a big on being cuddled.

For a New Family to Know: Dado is described as being friendly, affectionate and playful. He likes to follow his family around and sit with them. He likest o play with balls, string toys, wand toys, stuffed toys and laser pointers. He has been an indoor cat, sleep son his owners bed, and eats both wet and dry food. he is litter box trained using a hooded box with clumping litter. He uses a wood scratching post.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 11/13/17 Comes forward when spoken to, sniffing he air. Hisses and then vocalizes. He allows gentle petting along his head and body while leaning in and continuing to vocalize. Some conflicted behavior. May be uncomfortable due to medical condition. Sprayed feliway. 11/14/17 Lying in back of kennel, ears forward and eyes alert. He comes forward as I open the kennel door, vocalizing with tail raised. He leans in for petting, hissing once as my hand passes along his back. He allows al petting after that point, remaining in front of the kennel and standing on his hind legs to head-butt my hand. Continues to vocalize and rolls over onto his side. Affectionate boy – likes to talk! Did well today!
Cage Condition:: Cage is recently cleaned
Reaction to assessor:: Dado was relaxed and at the front of the kennel drinking his water. He tenses up when approached, lowers his body then slowly inches away.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Dado climbs into his litter box and focuses on the assessor’s movements.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Dado remains focused and alert.
Reaction to touch:: Dado sniffs the assessor, then gently nudges his hand and leans in for attention. His body perks up when pet along his back, gives head butts then rolls around in his litter box. He occasionally gets startled by loud noises, tenses up and isn’t confident enough to approach the front of the kennel.
