Cucumber came to the shelter as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment. Upon intake, Cucumber attempted to flee. Reaction to assessor: Cucumber is hiding underneath her paper. Reaction when softly spoken to: Cucumber continues to hide. Reaction to cage door opening: Cucumber retreats. Reaction to touch: Cucumber moves away to avoid touch, but allows some petting. Reaction to pick up: Cucumber hisses and runs away. Placement Determination: Experience No Child Cucumber does not approach the assessor, appears nervous and avoids handling. Cucumber is exhibiting behavior suited to experienced cat parents with no children who can allow her additional adjustment time to a new home environment.
