04/25/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Crystal was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Easy to handle, resented too much restraint hissed did not swat or bite or try to flee ENRICHMENT NOTES: 04/18/17 Lying in back of kennel with a tense body and eyes wide. She makes eye contact when I speak to her, then looks around the room. Slow blinks as I continue to speak to her. I open the door and I move in to pet her. Her eyes widen and she backs away, tail wrapping around her body. She tolerates touch along her head and warms up quickly, leaning in for petting and standing up with her tail raised. She walks over to the other side of the kennel and stretches. Good potential to warm up here. May be uncomfortable due to injury. 04/20/17 Has been moved to adoptions! Slow blinks when spoken to. She head-butts her litterbox as I approach and allows petting along her head and body, rolling over in her box and raising her tail up straight. Begins to purr with continued petting. Doing great in room 6 – Ok to take off of socialization list. Friendly and affectionate despite injury. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Crystal was crouched, sitting at the back of the kennel facing the wall. Reaction when softly spoken to: Crystal keeps her tail wrapped up at her side then slowly turns towards the assessor to make eye contact. Reaction to cage door opening: Crystal remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Crystal lip licks upon approach and seems a little hesitant when the assessor extends his hand out. He squints when touched and slowly relaxes when rubbed on his head/cheeks. After a few soft pets he shifts his body weight and nudges the assessor’s hand but remains at the back and doesn’t get up or come forward when coaxed. Reaction to being picked up: Crystal whines and leans away when attempting to pick her up. She has a tense body and tries to wiggle out the assessor’s arms when held. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Lap cat RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced cat parent – Crystal may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
