Safe - 2-24-2017 Brooklyn
SAFE 2/24/17 Coors was crying, very vocal. Really wants out of her kennel, pushes to jump out when door is opened, digs at paper in front. Appreciated attention, leaned in for petting all over but fairly quickly let me know she’d had enough.
Brooklyn Center
Coors A1103902 – 1 yr. female Calico, stray
BEHAVIOR:
RECOMMENDATIONS:
_x_ Experienced cat parent- Coors may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
KNOWN HISTORY:
Coors was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home.
EVALUATION:
Cage Condition: No change
02/18/17
Coors meowed softly and started brushing her cheeks up against the kennel door when I approached. She’s sweet, leans in for attention and allows petting all over her body. After a couple soft passes her tail starts to flicker, her ears bend flat and she starts to grumble. It appears she gets overstimulated with prolonged interactions. Will keep an eye on her and give her extra enrichment.
02/19/17
Possbily in heat? Seems to be running hot and cold with quick changes. Crying, very vocal. Really wants out of her kennel, pushes to jump out when door is opened, digs at paper in front. Appreciated attention, leaned in for petting all over but fairly quickly let me know she’d had enough.
02/20/17
Right at front of kennel, relaxed and social. No attempts to jump out, just softly head butts and pushes neck forward for petting. Allowed petting all over, but hair along back erected, tail swished with touching along rear. Belly felt very firm, looks big; pre-alter exam tomorrow. Boisterously hissed when I attempted pick up, didn’t force it. Attention-seeking, adorable, really enjoys head and neck rubs; seems to have limits on what handling she wants, has been giving clear signals.
02/22/17
At front of kennel, soliciting attention, rubbing face against bars of cage door. Pushes in for petting when I open cage door, buries head in my hands. Allows petting all over, stays forward, with head pushed into me. Tail starts swishing with prolonged interaction, but doesn’t escalate. Didn’t attempt pick up at this time. Gave a new toy and some treats.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Striking, screaming throughout exam
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow
VOCAL: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: Social, Sweet, Affectionate, Easy Going
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
_x_ Overstimulation- Coors is social and affectionate but appears to be easily overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Coors becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance.
