Hello, my name is Colada. My animal id is #15330. I am a male black cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a stray on 03-Dec-2017.

Colada is at risk for behavioral reasons, being very nervous and unsettled in the shelter. Colada will permit handling, but is obviously distressed. Medically, we have no concerns for Colada.

Behavior Condition: 3. Yellow
Upon intake, Colada was in a crouched position with dilated eyes. Colada allowed all handling.
Basic Information:: Colada was found as a stray so information is based on finder information and intake behavior.
How is this cat around strangers?: The finder says that Colada was hissing initially but was friendly with them.
How is this cat around children?: Colada was friendly with the finder’s child.
How is this cat around dogs?: Colada kept his distance from the finder’s dog.
KNOWN HISTORY:: Colada was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior -growling but allows exam
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/4/17 In den, pressed to far wall. Held immobile when den rotated. Tolerated brief pets, then started to growl, eyes dilated. Ate treats after door closed, curled up in far corner. Wouldn’t leave den. Sprayed thunderease.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Colada remains tense, crouched position on his cage bedding during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Colada remains immobile in place.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Colada stiffens up in place with head down.
Reaction to touch:: Colada sniffs the assessor’s hand then slowly increases distance. He flinches when touched while eyes widely opened with no interest with then interaction.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Timid,Independent
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Colada tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to his/her new home and family at his/her own pace.
