***SAFE 12/14/17***NEW PHOTO! Cola currently needs follow up medical care for his anemia and heart murmur. Owners stated that Cola has started going outside as of July, and since then he has been going to the bathroom outside of the litter box. He was not neutered prior to coming into the shelter and has not seen a vet recently. He was surrendered due to Cola having bathroom accidents in the house. Hello, my name is Cola. My animal id is #15761. I am a male black cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 09-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as animal behaviour – not house trained.
Cola is at risk for medical concerns, he has a chronic heart condition and anemia. Blood work is recommended with placement or adoption. Cola has been friendly while in the care center.

DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: ~3yrs Microchip noted on Intake? no History : Owner surrender Subjective: BAR. ~5% dehydration Observed Behavior – Attention seeking, allows all handling Evidence of Cruelty seen – no Evidence of Trauma seen – no Objective P = WNL R = WNL BCS 4/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: Pink mm, minimal dental wear PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: male MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat, alopecia with healed wound at lateral left hind paw (wound is at platar surface), healing wound with alopecia at middle of tail, polydactyl (6 digits on all four paws) CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment: Mild dehydration Prognosis: Excellent Plan: LRS 100ml SQ given by LVT. [Progress Exam Template] S: QAR O:Does not look thrifty, was dehydrated yesterday EENT: pale Oral Exam:ok 3-5y based on dentitia H/L: gallop rhythm, ssp 160 bpm, 5% dehydrated Abd:doughy abdomen, no overt masses/megally/pain, +/- small kidneys, mi x 2 MSI:wnl, poor, flakey haircoat Mentation: A: 3-5 yr mi dehydrated 5%, pale, gallop rhythm, poor and flakey haircoat r/o anemia vs cardia vs other metabolic P: cbc/chem/ua – non-regenerative anemia of 20% 100 cc lrs sq became a bit fractious and gave 0.1 cc Telazol im began open-mouth breathng and hypersalivating – took chest rads – cardiac silhouette rounded on both views, on lateral view there appears to be a prominent vessel venrally and dorsally, mild bronchointerstitial pattern on the vd view could not successfully place ivc in case cats condition worsens. [Pre-Op Exam] S: QAR. BCS 3/9. Eating wet food with good appetite. Mild dehydration (4-6%). O: EENT:wnl Oral Exam: pale pink mm H/L: no murmur detected, no gallop rhythm ausculted today, clear lung sounds bilaterally Abd: no palpable masses, non-painful MSI: wnl Mentation: normal A: Underlying cardiovascular/hematology (anemia) of concern on recent exams. P: Waived from neuter surgery today. Continued monitoring of PCV and overall condition. Continuing with 75 ml LRS sq fluids q24 for 3 days.
[Spay/Neuter Waiver – Medical Condition] Your newly adopted pet has been diagnosed with anemia and the staff veterinarians are issuing a permanent ACC waiver from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY. Vomit noted in cage by food bowl-soft food and bile. No further c/s/v/d. Overall seems clinically stable but still recommend internal medicine follow up for anemia. Good appetite. Ate well overnight, fresh food available, large amount of urine in litterbox EENT: Pale pink mm, eyes clear, no ocular or nasal discharge HL: Normal thoracic auscultation, no gallop rhythm appreciated, no murmurs or arrhythmias noted INTEG: Healed wound at lateral/plantar LH paw, shaved areas with mild bruising at both front limbs from trying to place IVC MS: Ambulatory x 4 UG: Male A: Non regenerative anemia – improving but remains low Dehydration resolved Rounded cardiac sillouette History of gallop rhythm P: Continue with current treatment and monitoring plan. Behavior Notes: Cola’s owner has bathed him and stated he does not struggle. She has not trimmed his nails but she is able to easily brush him. He allows his owner to pick him up but he struggles when they try to put him in the carrier.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior – Attention seeking, allows all handling
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/10/17 Lying in litterbox with a relaxed body, ears forward. He allows petting along his head and body, leaning in and standing up to step forward. He steps out into his kennel and allows further petting with tail raised. Begins eating – social eater maybe. Doing well after first day!
Cage Condition:: Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:: Cola was resting by the front, calm and relaxed.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Cola looks at the assessor with soft eyes.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Cola remains soft and relaxed.
Reaction to touch:: Cola remains in place and accepts petting all over. He closes his eyes, leans in for cheek rubs, and begins to purr.
Reaction to being picked up:: Cola rests calmly when held.
