DVM intake, presurgical exam and surgery notes: * fearful behavior but able to handle microchip scan negative BARH BCS 4/9 – no c/s v/d observed/reported – no wounds, signs of trauma or cruelty EENT: clean/clear Oral Exam: nsf PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA; Lungs clear, eupneic; nsf ABD: soft non-painful abdomen, large reducible umbilical hernia U/G: intact male MSI: amb x 4, fleas/flea dirt, no masses noted CNS: mentation appropriate, nsf Rectal: externally normal A: fleas + umbilical hernia, otherwise apparently healthy = ok for surgery Sx notes: Routine Neuter and left ear-tipping => Testes exteriorized on R and L sides by scrotal incision over each testicle; each spermatic cord was auto-ligated and each testicle was excised distal to the ligature; scrotal incisions are left open to drain and heal by second intention; a green-ink tattoo was placed at the caudal abdomen/inguinal region lateral to midline and covered with tissue adhesive; left ear tip was removed Hernia repair: mid-line abdominal incision over hernia, umbilical opening edges debrided and body wall closed with simple cont. pattern using 3-0 Monocryl; subcutaneous/intradermal skin layers close with simple cont. pattern using 3-0 Monocryl

Cody was loose bodied but stayed low to the ground when i approached him. He stiffened up when i picked him up but when i placed him back down he loosened up and was eating treats from my hand.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Cody was brought in as a stray, so there is no information on their behavior history or tendencies in a home environment. Cody had a loose body during intake, but stayed low to the ground when approached. He stiffened up when picked up, but loosened up when placed back down.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Fearful behavior but able to handle
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/14/17 Curled up at back under kuranda bed, alert, eyes dilated. Came slowly forward when spoken to, cautious, retreated several times before getting all the way to the front. Sniffed hand, then started rubbing against the bars, rolling over, and gently nosing pompom toy. Came slightly forward again when door opened. Leaned and arched into pets, purred. Ate treats after door closed, still a bit wary. 12/18/17 Resting on bedding in cubby, soft posture, eyes dilated, likely due to pain killers. Started rolling over when spoken to. Lay in place, leaned into pets, purred, rolled over some more.

Reaction to assessor:: Cody was calm, relaxed, and friendly by the front, looking around at his surroundings.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Cody presses his head against the cage door and leans on it. He starts rubbing his entire body against it after, soliciting attention.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Cody plops onto his bedding and rolls over, soft and relaxed.
Reaction to touch:: Cody remains in place, accepts petting, begins to purr, and continues to lean in for more rubs.
Reaction to being picked up:: Cody remains soft and rests calmly against the assessor’s arms.
