SAFE 2/25/16 Cobbler is a super sweet kitty! He loves attention and enjoys spending time with his human friends. He waits for people to come visit him and then purrs softly while being pet. Cobbler has an abscess around one of his teeth which is responding well to treatment. Cobbler is ready to find a great new home, please let us know if you can take him!

The shelter staff think I am about 2 years old.
I weigh 10 pounds.
I was found in NY 11212.
I have been at the shelter since Feb 10, 2016.
Medical
Initial 02/10:
scan negative
intact male
weight: 9.8lbs
bright eyes
clean ears – em negative
dirty coat – flea negative
mild staining to teeth along with gingivitis
missing some hair on top his head
overall body condition is good
very sweet boy – shows affections – head butts you and is talkative – easy to handle
very good appetite seen for soft food

Re-Exam 02/18:
Pre-surgical exam, noted facial swelling below left eye, purulent discharge from mouth
S/O: BAR. Moderate swelling noted below left eye.
Sedated w/ 0.2ml Telazol IM to facilitate complete oral exam.
Drain tract above upper PM on left side, tooth appears stable and no signs of dental disease. Flushed w/ dilute chlorhexidine w/ 22g catheter. Drained small amount of pink purulent exudate, flushed until clear.
FeLV/FIV SNAP: negative
A: Abscess Ddx: puncture wound to ginigiva vs penerating FB vs tooth root abscess (appears unlikely)
P: Start buprenorphine and clindamycin, monitor appetite and progression of abscess resolution

VET CHECK – RECHECK ABSCESS AT LEFT UPPER PREMOLAR
BARH. ATTENTION SEEKING, EATING WELL.
MILD SWELLING BELOW LEFT EYE, NO DRAINAGE APPRECIATED, APPEARS COMFORTABLE
A: ABSCESS VS WOUND AT REGION OF LEFT PREMOLAR – RESOLVING
P: CONTINUE WITH CURRENT TREATMENT AND MONITORING PLAN. GOOD PROGNOSIS
Behavior – Average Home
Coobler was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He was calm and relaxed upon intake, eating treats that were given and was very vocal. His tail quivers during the interactions with the assessor and he allowed all handling. He was very sweet during his initial medical exam, showing affection and head-butting.
Reaction to Assessor: Coobler was eating upon approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to: Coobler looks up at the assessor and continues to eat.
Reaction to cage door opening: Coobler remains soft and relaxed.
Reaction to touch: Coobler head-butts lightly and begins to purr.
Reaction to being picked up: Coobler remains calm and purrs when held.
Placement Determination: Average
Coobler interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
