ENRICHMENT NOTES:
12/5/17
Asleep in top cubby, woke when door opened. Lay in place, soft posture, wide-eyed, started hissing. Allowed pets, but growled for duration of interaction. Ate treats after door closed, never actually got out of sleeping position. Sprayed thunderease.
12/6/17
Curled up asleep in litter box, took a while to wake up when touched. Lay in place, lifted head, leaned away to avoid head pets. Hissed quietly when pet on body, some lip licking. Sprayed thunderease.
12/7/17
Asleep on bedding in top cubby, woke when door opened. Lay in place, soft eyes and body. Allowed all pets while eating treats. Tolerated brief pets when done eating, hissed and growled when pet on body. Hissed and swatted when pet on head again. Curled up and went back to sleep when door closed. Sprayed thunderease.
12/10/17
Huge improvement! Curled up asleep in top cubby, woke when door opened. Lay in place, soft eyes and body, started eating offered treats. Allowed all pets while eating, including along the body, no vocalizing! Ate additional treats from my hand. When done, leaned slightly into pets, purred quietly.
12/11/17
Further improvement! Asleep in top cubby, woke when door opened. Lay in place, soft eyes and body. Allowed and slightly leaned into pets, extended neck for throat scratches, purred. Largely distracted by eating treats, but no longer averse to socializing.

No change
Reaction to assessor:
Clarabelle remains neutral, lying down in her cage cubby during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:
Clarabelle becomes alert with normal shape eyes.
Reaction to cage door opening:
Clarabelle hisses and growls, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:
Clarabelle briefly allows the touch while she continues to growl during the interaction.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:
Laid back
VOCAL:
Somewhat chatty
CHARACTER TYPE:
Bold
Independent
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:
Experienced, adult only
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:
Clarabelle tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to her new home and family at her own pace.
