Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 3. Yellow
KNOWN HISTORY:: Citrus was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: BARH. Fled immediately when coming out of carrier, captured in freeman net, no attempts to bite or scratch
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 11/12/17 Crouched in back of kennel with a tense body and face. He shrinks away from the bear-claw as it reaches towards him, tail wrapping around his body and his eyes wide open. Tolerates touch briefly before retreating to the other side of his kennel, body and tail low. Needs more time to adjust. 11/13/17 Crouched in back of kennel with a tense body. He flattens his ears and tolerates petting along his head and body while turning his heat to watch the bear-claw, eyes wide and face tensed. Not interested in treats at the moment. Needs more time to adjust.
Cage Condition:: Cage is re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:: Citrus was crouched in the litter box with his lowered and eyes focused on the assessor.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Citrus lip licks and doesn’t get up or come forward when coaxed.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Citrus is alert and remains motionless.
Reaction to touch:: Citrus’s ears bend flat and he sinks lower into the litter box when the assessor extends his hand out. He hisses then curls up tight, shrinking his body when touched him on his head. The end of his tail flicks back and forth, he tolerates petting along his body with a slow approach and he remains tense and wary inside his litter box.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Timid,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Citrus has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:: None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Citrus tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
