She is tolerant around the children and will not engage in play. She has not been around cats. She lived with a shih tzu and was described as playful and will engage in rough play, she will swat when she played and scratched. Ciroc often scratches when she plays or when she does not want to be bothered. Ciroc has been urinating outside her litterbox for the last month, owner believes it was due to the environmental changes. Ciroc used a hooded litterbox and crystals litter. She was not bathed by owner or had her nails triimed. Owner stated when they tried to bath her before she would struggle and flee. Ciroc is described as independent, quiet and aloof. She likes to stay hidden in the home. She is fearful when held and will retreat when she is picked up. Ciroc has been kept only indoors and eats dry food Meow Mix brand and is fed twice a day. 10/31/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Ciroc’s previous owner reports she has lived in a home with two adults and two teenagers. She was described as shy and reclusive around strangers, coming out to sniff them, but will retreat afterwards. She is tolerant around children, but will not engage in play. She has not been around other cats, but has lived with a Shih Tzu and was playful with the dog, engaging in rough play. Her owner reports she may scratch when playing or when she doesn’t want to be bothered. She was described as independent, quiet, and aloof. Reaction to assessor: Ciroc meows and is calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Ciroc approaches the front with her tail lowered, meowing again. Reaction to cage door opening: Ciroc greets the assessor by the opening. Reaction to touch: Ciroc accepts petting and leans in for rubs, but will focus on people passing by or looks around the environment from time to time. He appears to appreciate attention, rubbing her head hard against the assessor, but whines during the interaction. Reaction to pick up: Ciroc allows pick up, but is tense when held. Ciroc’s previous owner reports she has been urinating outside of her litter box for the past month. The owner believes this behavior is due to having a new baby in the home and reported she was not adjusting. We are unaware of what, if any, modifications steps were taken to try and address this behavior in the home, so we cannot be sure what the trigger may have been or if this behavior may continue in a future home. However, we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litterbox should this behavior continue in a home environment. Behavior Determination: Experienced Ciroc tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent, and need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Her previous owner has reported she will swat during play and whenever she doesn’t want to be bothered, so we recommend any future home with children conduct a thorough interaction before adopting.
