Owner claims over the last 6 months there was an increase in drinking and eating. Did this guy ever hear of the word VETERINARIAN??? CINNABON needs a full medical eval to assess her health and a new owner who will give her the care she needs! Please help this sweet tortie girl today! I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 25-Nov-2017, with the surrender reason stated as animal health – too old.

Cinnabon is at risk for medical concerns. Cinnabon is a geriatric cat with multiple underlying conditions, including likely renal failure. Cinnabon has given us no reason to be concerned about her bahavior whilst at the shelter.

She does not move and only does to use the bathroom or to eat. She tends to sit at an angle and has trouble jumping, moving and walking and is known to stay in one place for majority of the day,” cat has visible laxity in hinds but is able to withdraw feet when pinched, at times upright but usually bunny hopping to ambulate, mats over back (brushed what patient would tolerate) Eyes: OD cataract vs old scar Ears: earmites (thick d/c and pinnal pedal) Oral Exam: moderate staining Heart: WNL Lungs: WNL Abdomen: WNL Musculoskeletal: WNL BCS 5/9 with some muscle wasting in hinds Mentation: BARH Preliminary Assessment: geriatric cat with unknown lameness issue Plan: 0.09ml ivermectin SQ, DVM intake, observation in medical

Azotemia-suspect mild chronic renal disease with possible exacerbation by mild dehydration 2. Mild anemia-likely secondary to renal disease Plan SQF 150 ml SID x 5 days recommend renal diet such as Hill’s k/d recommend recheck renal values in 5 days prognosis: fair, likely has underlying chronic renal disease which will likely progress over time
Hx: mild to moderate azotemia; started on SQF S/O -BAR/QAR, docile but friendly and interactive -may have hearing loss, sleeps soundly and startles somewhat easily -noted to be pu/pd -was not interested in friskies this morning, which she ate very well yesterday; had a good appetite when offered different variety of food -mm pk/pigmented, dental disease -no nasal discharge -OU: cataracts, OD-hypermature -eupnic, no murmurs or arrhyhtmias -abdomen slightly tense initially but then soft and allowed on palpation; no obvious abnormalities -ambulatory paraparesis with plantigrade stance; withdrawal increased in hindlimbs; proprioception intact x 4 -possible mild LF lameness or paresis -possible discomfort on palpation of LS spine A 1. Azotemia-r/o CKD vs pyelonephritis vs other 2. Paraparesis-r/o IVDD vs vascular vs neoplastic 3. Cataracts 4. Dental disease 5. Possible food aversion 6. During intake Cinnabon purred while being pet and held. She allowed all handling, petting and did not mind being picked up and was curious about the environment.

Basic Information:: Cinnabon is a 13 year old, tortoiseshell, domestic short haired cat. She is not declawed and with the previous family for a decade and was surrender due to some health concerns.
If yes, Please elaborate:: Cinnabon has been having issues walking around and climbing around the apartment. She has been having difficulties getting into the litter box and has been peeing and defecating right outside of the litter box. This has been going on for about 6 months and happens a few times a month.
How is this cat around strangers?: Cinnabon around strangers that are either adults or children is known to be friendly, outgoing, relaxed, respectful and exuberant.
How is this cat around children?: Cinnabon has been around kids the ages between 2-15 years old and is known to be relaxed, affectionate, and respectful and is also known to keep to herself from time to time.
How is this cat around other cats?: Cinnabon has been around another cat, they respect each others space and are tolerant of each other. Cinnabon tends to be independent and hisses towards the other cat just to keep her space.
How is this cat around dogs?: Cinnabon has been around puppies and large dogs and is known to be respectful. She never has played and keeps to herself but was tolerant of all the dogs.
Behavior Notes: Cinnabon has no behavioral concerns but had monthly accidents a few times a month by peeing outside the litterbox. According to the owner it was because she had weak legs and has difficulty getting into the litter box.
Bite history:: Cinnabon has never bitten or scratched anyone nor has she received any bites or scratches.

Medical Notes: Per previous owner Cinnabon has been more lethargic over the past 6 months. She has been seen lounging in her cat bed for majority of the day and is only seen getting up to use the bathroom or to eat and drink water. Cinnabon’s appetite has gone up within the six months and has been having difficulty with her back legs and walking and jumping around.
For a New Family to Know: Cinnabon has been described as friendly, affectionate, mellow, independent and quiet. Cinnabon has a low activity level and is known to sleep in her bed majority of the day. She always tends to stay in her favorite spot in her bed and has been strictly kept indoors. Cinnabon eats one cup of dry food twice a day and is litter trained but has a few accidents during the month. She primarily uses hooded litter boxes .

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 11/26/17 Resting on bedding, soft eyes and body. Sat up when door opened, leaned into pets, purred. Meowed and came forward to eat offered treats after door closed, still purring.

Reaction to assessor:: Cinnabon is asleep on approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Cinnabon wakes up, chirps at the assessor, and begins to knead in place.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Cinnabon stands and comes to the front, soft eyes and body.
Reaction to touch:: Cinnabon leans and arches into the stroke and begins to purr.
Reaction to being picked up:: Cinnabon sits calmly in the assessor’s arms and looks around.

Potential challenges comments:: Cinnabon’s previous owner reports that she was eliminating outside the litter box, but we are unaware of what, if any, modification steps were taken to try and address this behavior. Please note as well that Cinnabon was reported to have weakness in her hind legs, which may contribute to her not getting to the litter box in time. We cannot be sure whether this behavior will continue in a home environment after treatment for the medical condition has been completed, but we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litter box should this behavior continue in a home environment.
