I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 07/03/2017 from NY 10457, owner surrender reason stated was ATT PEOPLE.

Chulo A1114631 is at risk due to behavior. Chulo was released for rescue after DOH hold. He remains calm and relaxed when approached and is receptive to petting and attention. Although he is social, he tends to focus on his surroundings and becomes tense with sudden movement or noise. He has not shown distance-increasing behaviors during his stay in the shelter, but he had two incidents within the past month in his previous home.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Bold, Social KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Other notes: The cat’s behavior in kennel earned him an Average rating however, due to an incident with the previous owner the cat is rated Experience. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR – Observed Behavior – Very easy to handle for entire exam. Attention seeking, accepts petting and started to purr. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 7/5/17- Back again! At the front on approach, soft eyes and body. Started rolling over and rubbing against the bars when spoken to. Stayed at the front when door opened. Leaned and arched into pets. Resumed rubbing against the bars when door closed. 7/6/17 Sitting up towards front, soft eyes and body, eating dry food. Stayed at the front when door opened. Leaned and arched into pets, lifted rear for butt scratches. 07/09/17 Calm and relaxed by the front. He reaches out gently with his paw and leans against the cage door to solicit attention. He accepts petting and seems to appreciate it, but would focus on movement outside of the room. Seems to have a lot of energy and would benefit from play time. 7/10/17 Sitting at the front, soft eyes and body. Started rubbing against the bars when door opened. Head-butted, leaned and arched into pets, and purred. Ate offered treats. Resumed rubbing against the bars after door closed. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Chulo remains neutral, sitting upright by the front during the approach. Reaction to cage door opening: Chulo becomes alert with his surroundings, soft eyes, soliciting attention. Reaction to touch: Chulo engages and leans into the assessor’s hand, but focuses on sudden noises while his tail drops down with a low flick. Reaction to being picked up: He briefly allows the pickup then jumps back into the cage. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Chulo interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. The former owner- mentioned behavior concerns with randomly scratching and biting. He may have some behavioral issues that will need to be addressed in the home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
