01/23/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Christy does not come to front but remains neutral When spoken quietly: Christy does not come to front but remains neutral Reaction to door cage opening: Christy remains motionless Reaction to touch: Christy remains motionless but allows gentle petting Try picking cat up: Christy is tolerant of this type of handling but tense. Behavior Determination: Experience At the time of the assessment she was displaying fearful behavior; does not seek attention from the assessor and becomes alert when the kennel was open. Remains motionless as I started to get closer but after a steady slow approach using soft voices she relaxed a little. I was able to pet her and interact with her in a limited way. I was also able to pick her up and although she was tense no fractious behavior was display. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. 1/27 update: Christy allows some touch and handling, but is tense in the kennel environment and sensitive to touch on her body. Initially soliciting attention cautiously, Christy has begun giving distance-increasing behaviors (raised paw, leaning away) and may flinch when touched. She appreciates petting on the cheeks and chin, even leaning in for those scratches, but she has repeatedly turned quickly toward the assessor’s hand when touched on the back. We cannot be certain if this is a personal preference, fear, overstimulation, or touch sensitivity, but based on the full behavioral repertoire seen and her hesitancy to interact with her caretakers, we recommend that Christy move from the kennel environment to a stable home as quickly as possible.
