07/06/17 16:13 Basic Information:Chiva is a gray, unaltured, female cat that is 1 year old. The owner found Chiva as a stray kitten. The owner has housed Chiva for a 1 year but is surrendering due to behavior issues. Chiva has no known illness. Socialization: When strangers come over Chiva is relaxed and keeps her distance. When children are around age 9 and 12 she is also relaxed. she allows being petted. However she hisses when picked up and tries to escape. She has lived with 3 neutered cats. They enjoy each others company and play chase in the back yard. She has never been introduced to dogs. Behavior: Chiva has never recieved a bath, had her nails trimmed or had her coat brushed. She always uses her open litter box. She always uses her large scratching post made out of rough rope. Chiva is relaxed when petted but prefers not to be picked up or held. Chiva when she is fearful or displays unpredictable behavior, she begins to swat or hiss. She has never had a bite history but has swat at the neighbors. Chiva is an indoor and outside cat. For New Families To Know: Chiva is described as indepedent & aloof. She likes to play with ball toys and stuffed toys. She spend most of the day outside in the backyard exploring. KNOWN HISTORY: Indoor and outdoor cat Previously lived with: Adults and children 9 &12 Behavior toward strangers: Relaxed and keeps her distance Behavior toward children: Relaxed and allows being pet. However she hisses when picked up and tries to escape. Behavior toward cats: Lived with 3 neutered males and got along with all of them Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Bite or Scratch history: She swats when she’s fearful Litter box training: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Independent and aloof Other notes: She likes to play with ball toys and stuffed toys. She spends most of the day outside in the backyard exploring. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Seemed a little shy/timid at first, but at front of feral den. Started hissing. Was doing okay with slow approach and restraint with towel, but fled and then quickly escalated to defensive aggression (swatting, biting). ENRICHMENT NOTES: 07/09/17 Comes forward and head-butts my hand in greeting as I open the kennel door. She allows petting along her head and body while leaning in and purring, tail up. She’s rolling around on the kennel floor after I close the door. Doing well after first day! EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Chiva meows softly then comes forward with a relaxed body to greet the assessor. Reaction when softly spoken to: Chiva continues meowing and rubs against the cage door. Reaction to cage door opening: Chiva is calm and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Chiva sniffs the assessor then leans in for petting and attention. Her tail quivers, she brushes her body past the assessor’s hand and gives head butts. She occasionally turns around then meows when touched in a area she doesn’t like. She’ll become focused briefly then go back to soliciting attention. Reaction to being picked up: Chiva was a bit tense when picked up and tried to wiggle out of the assessor’s arms. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Lively VOCAL: Somewhat chatty CHARACTER TYPE: Social, Affectionate, Sweet RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced cat parent – Chiva may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. She may have some behavioral issues that will need to be addressed in the home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents and future home with children should conduct a thorough interaction.

Started hissing. Was doing okay with slow approach and restraint with towel, but fleed and then quickly escalated to defensive aggression (swatting, biting). Required netting and sedation to finish exam, vaccines, etc. Sedated with 0.15mls Telazol IM. Applied artificial tears OU. Evidence of Cruelty seen – no Evidence of Trauma seen – no Objective T = NA P = 150 R = 40 BCS 6-7/9 EENT: Eyes clear – mild chemosis and epiphora OU, ears clean, no nasal discharge noted Oral Exam: Healthy adult dentition PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated; no fetuses palpated U/G: left mammary chain feels slightly developed compared to right chain MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: not performed Assessment: Overweight, otherwise Apparently Healthy Plan: Acceptable candidate for adoption or rescue pending behavior evaluation. Prognosis: Good-Excellent SURGERY: Okay for surgery
