KNOWN HISTORY:
Chilli was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
01/14/18
Very vocal and hisses. Easily handle able once in a towel. Did well for all medical handling and procedures
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
01/14/18
Lying in back of kennel, feet folded beneath him and tail wrapped around body. He makes eye contact when spoken to and begins to stress meow, hissing intermittently. He tolerates petting along his head and body while turning his head to watch the bear-claw with wide eyes and continuing to hiss. Vocalizations become louder. Uncomfortable, needs more time to adjust.
Cage Condition:
Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:
Chilli was lying down in the back on top of the kuranda bed and vocalizes when the assessor approaches.
Reaction when softly spoken to:
Chilli’s seems unsure of his surroundings, his pupils dilate and he hisses when spoken to softly.
Reaction to cage door opening:
Chilli hisses, then rises up and lip licks.
Reaction to touch:
Chilli stress meows and appears to be displaying conflicted behaviors when approached. His tail flicks and he low growls, but he eventually leans forward and sniffs the assessor’s hand. He leans in for cheek rubs, then hops down from his perch and comes forward seeking attention. He gives head butts and rubs against the cage furnishings, but still seems unsure of his surroundings and will hiss occasionally when he feels uncomfortable.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:
Chilli tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
