I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 07/24/2017 from NY 10457, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

Hx: Overweight but recent weight loss. Diarrhea, suspect chronic. Dehydration. S: Settled in kennel – hisses and swats when I open the door. front declawed O: BAR Mild dehydration EENT: No discharge OU, AU, nose H/L: Eupnic, not ausculted Abd: Tense and painful palpated U/G: Spay female MSI: Front declawed Neuro: Alert and appropriate A: 1. Weight loss, diarrhea, dehydration – 2. R/O hyperthyroid vs. primary GI disease (IBD or lymphoma) vs. other 2. Mild Dental stain and calculus Short-term prognosis: Fair to Good P: Continue LRS and metronidazole. Gave a dose of DiaGel Add 1 pk of Fortiflora once a day Add Symbadol 1 ml SQ SID Rec prescription diet only (Hills I/D) Recommend abd ultrasound. Rec NH placemet and monitor while in ACC MS

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – hides in carrier, swats and lunges when approached; growling, hissing ENRICHMENT NOTES: 7/25/17 Laying under kuranda bed, eyes dilated, tense. Started grumbling when door opened. Hissed, growled, and threatened to bite offered assess-a-hand. 7/26/17 Moved to medical for observation. Came slowly to the front when given treats, tense, eyes dilated. Ate a few treats, then yowled and swatted between the bars when offered more. Retreated to back and lay on bedding. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Cheyenne remains soft lying down on her cage bedding during the approach. Reaction to cage door opening: Cheyenne remains in place alert with normal shape eyes. Reaction to touch: Cheyenne does not allow the touch, began to paw at the assessor’s hand while distance increases and growls. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Cheyenne is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She is stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.

History : no history available Subjective: QAR Observed Behavior – hides in carrier, swats and lunges when approached; growlng, hissing; used thick gloves for restraint during exam Evidence of Cruelty seen – none Evidence of Trauma seen – none Objective BCS 8/0 EENT: OU-pupils dilated and symmetric; no nasal discharge; ears clean Oral Exam: mm pk, tacky; moderate tartar, moderate to severe staining; missing multiple teeth PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: soft, non painful, slightly doughy; no palpable abnormalities; severe light brown liquid diarrhea staining on hind limbs and around rectum U/G: female; no obvious spay scar or tattoo noted MSI: ambulatory x 4 with no obvious lameness; unable to perform full evaluation due to temperament hair coat slightly unthrifty mild-mod muscle wasting over spine and hind limbs irritation of rectum secondary to diarrhea CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: irritation secondary to suspected chronic diarrhea Assessment Dental disease Dehydrated Geriatric Diarrhea-appears chronic Plan CBC/chem/T4 150 ml SQF SID x 3 days (if temperament allows) metronidazole 2 ml PO BID x 10 days Prognosis: guarded to fair; based on irritation around rectum, the diarrhea may be chronic in nature and may require further diagnostics including an abdominal ultrasound and possible intestinal biopsy for a definitive answer SURGERY: permanent waiver due to age
