A1116235 Chai – Experienced determination; Keeps a low body posture when approached for interaction and seems very cautious of his surroundings. He will approach to sniff and investigate, but doesn’t seem completely comfortable. He tolerates gentle petting, but he looks away, flattens his ears, and will slowly shift away.

07/01/17 13:49 Basic Information: Chai is a male domestic short hair cat who was surrendered with his housemate Miffy due to their previous owner no longer having the time or funds to care for them. Socialization: Around strangers Chai is shy and plays gently. Chai has spent time with children ages 5 years and older around them he is relaxed affectionate and plays gently with them. Chai has lived with one other cat who he was relaxed and affectionate towards. Chai has never been around dogs so it is unknown how he will react to them. Behavior: Chai has never bitten another person or animal and has not shown any concerning behavior while at home. Chai is relaxed when riding in a car. Chai is not bothered by being given a bath. Chai enjoys having his nails trimmed, being picked up/held, being placed in a carrier, and doesn’t mind being disturbed while resting/sleeping. For a New family to Know: Chai is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, mellow, confident, shy, and quiet with a medium activity level. When at home Chai will follow around his owner and likes top play with stuffed toys. Chai was kept indoors only and was fed both wet and dry food. Chai is litter box trained and used hooded litter box with clumping litter. Chai also used a scratching post made of cardboard. Intake Behavior: Chai was nervous during intake but allowed staff to collar, scan for a microchip and take pictures with no signs of aggression.

Other notes: He enjoys having his nails trimmed, being picked up/held, being placed in a carrier, and doesn’t mind being disturbed while resting/sleeping. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Allowed all petting/handling. Preferred to stay crouched in a ball for exam and kept eyes diverted with ears low. Did not attempt to bite, flee, or hiss/growl. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Chai was lying down in the back of the kennel behind his litter box. Reaction when softly spoken to: Chai lowers his head, lip licks and trembles. Reaction to cage door opening: Chai is alert. Reaction to touch: Chai leans forward to sniff then closes his eyes as the assessor pets him on his head. His body feels tense; his continues lip licking then slowly turns his head away. He allows gentle petting along his body but seems uncomfortable and stays at the back of the cage with his body lowered. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced cat parent – Chai may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.

Evidence of Cruelty seen – no Evidence of Trauma seen – no Objective P = 228 bpm R = eup BCS = 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal discharge noted Oral Exam: Mild gingivitis PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, Grade III/VI holosystolic HM ausculted, PMI over L basal surface, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Small bladder, MN MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment 2 yo MN DSH with: Heart murmur – r/o physiologic vs. pathologic (HCM vs. DRVOTO vs. other) gingivitis Px: Good P: Will auscult patient in 2-3 days to confirm presence of HM.
