CATALINA – A1066908

*** SAFE 03/18/16 *** CATALINA is a darling 4-month-old kitten who was brought to the ACC with a basket full of other cats. This was due to a hoarding situation, which just goes to show it’s possible to have too much of a good thing. Catalina is already spayed and has a nice EXPERIENCE rating, which means the shelter thinks she would do well with many cat parents. This kitten deserves to know what it’s like to be a much-loved pet, but that is not what the ACC have planned for her tomorrow. Please advocate widely for Catalina, tonight!

03/10/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Catalina was brought in without any information on her behavioral tendencies in a home environment. She appeared under socialized upon intake. She allowed all handling during her initial medical exam, but the enrichment facilitator has reported she displayed fearful behavior during interactions. She stays by the back of her kennel and presses her body against the wall when the cage door opens. She lip licks and attempts to avoid petting, but will allow it and become immobile. She did warm up after a moment, but she still seemed uncomfortable when pet on her head. Reaction to assessor: Catalina was by the back, crouched over upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Catalina looks at the assessor with wide eyes, but blinks slowly after and averts her gaze. Reaction to cage door opening: Catalina becomes alert, but remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Catalina was hesitant and attempts to shift away at first, but she remains in place and allows petting on her head and along her body. After a moment, she relaxes and closes her eyes. She still appears unsure, but she is tolerant of petting. Reaction to being picked up: Catalina meows and struggles to jump back into her cage. She retreats to the back of her cubby and lip licks. She continues to allow petting afterwards. Behavior Determination: Experience Catalina tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
