SAFE 5/18/17 Meet Castiel: This tough, handsome cat could really use a home! He is FIV+, so he will need special care, but with the right amount of TLC he can still have a great life.
**FIV POSITIVE** CASTIEL has some kind of abscess or mass on his face – he is also tested a light FIV positive – needs further medical eval to determine what is wrong.

05/15/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Castiel was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. She was fearful during intake and seemed uncomfortable with handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: No aggression, but very tense and hissed once when backside was touched EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Castiel is hiding in his cat den on approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Castiel continues to hide. Reaction to cage door opening: Castiel continues to hide. Reaction to touch: Castiel flinches and backs away from touch, he grumbles quietly and nips gently at the assessor’s hand. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Timid, Independent POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: – Fearful Castiel has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Please note that this cat has a severe medical condition so we may not be seeing any true behavior and behavior may change when the cat’s medical condition improves. Castiel tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced, adult home only
