SAFE 9/24/17 Adorable kitten Candy Apple has a fractured femur and needs our help @MACC. CANDY APPLE was most likely hit by a car – was found on the side of the road – cannot use his left hind limb and moves using his front legs. She is 2 months old and needs medical – xrays – asap. Please help this cute kitten.

Medical Summary DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: estimated 2mo based denition Microchip noted on Intake? neg History : road traffic accident, found on side of road Subjective: hissing (secondary to pain), less active than normal kitten, allowed handling for exam Evidence of Trauma seen – YES, left hind leg dangling, no reflexes, slightly swollen Objective T = not taken P = 230 R = 24 BCS: 4/9 EENT: Eyes clear with bilateral mydriasis secondary to pain, ears clean, no nasal discharge noted Oral Exam: all kitten teeth present PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, mildly distented; no fluid on palpation and no masses palpated U/G: FI , blood on hair around vulva MSI: can use all limbs except left hind leg. prefers to sit in sternal recubency; will move around using front limbs to move away from person examining, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, dirty hair coat (all feet dirty and white feet discolored from dirt from outside) CNS: mentation appropriate. not able to use left hind limb Rectal: grossly normal Assessment: 2 mo FI DSH 1. trauma to left hind leg 2. pot belly r/o parasites vs trauma vs other Plan 1. transfer offsite for xrays/BW/IVF and surgical repair of limb vs conservative treament 2. unable to transfer offsite tonite: will give 50ml LRS SQ, one dose of simbadol based on 2lb weight, feed/water Prognosis: good to excellent with care SURGERY: Temporary waiver due to repair of left hind limb

no obvious appetite
QAR, unsocialized and hissed but allows handling
mm pk, sl tacky
no nasal discharge or sneezing noted
OU-open and clear, pupils dilated (secondary to simbadol)
tachycardic (pain vs behavioral), eupnic
soft abdomen; bladder intact, clear urine expressed
LH-toe touching lameness; proximal femur palpates unstable with soft tissue swelling
gave 0.1 ml ketamine/0.05 ml dexdomitor SQ for radiographs
LH radiograph-complete fracture of femur proximal mid-shaft

Onsior 0.1 ml SQ SID x 3 days
consider surgical correction of femur vs amputation; conservative management with extended cage rest and pain medication may be reasonable but has significant risk of non union or chronic lameness without surgery
