Hello, my name is Cali. My animal id is #17167. I am a female brown cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender – aco on 28-Dec-2017.
Cali is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection which is contagious to other cats. Call will likely require in home care with a course of antibiotics. Cali should go to an adult only home as she is more independent and will likely take time to warm up to her environment.

Basic Information:: Cali is a 2 year old, female, domestic short haired cat.Previous owner got Cali from a neighbor as a gift and has had her for 2 years. Unfortunately, previous owner had to surrender due to Cali’s behavior towards people.

How is this cat around strangers?: Cali is shy while strangers are over. She will hide until they leave. She does not play with adults.
How is this cat around children?: Cali spent time around an 11 year old child and Cali was relaxed and playful around the child. She plays gently with children.
How is this cat around other cats?: Cali has never spent time around other cats. Behavior is unknown.
How is this cat around dogs?: Cali has never spent time around dogs. Behavior is unknown.
Behavior Notes: Cali will scratch people she is uncomfortable with. Previous owner has never given Cali a bath or trimmed her nails. She isn’t bothered when her coat is brushed, picked up or held, or disturbed while sleeping. She has never put Cali in a carrier.
Bite history:: Cali has never bitten another person but she has scratched.

For a New Family to Know: Cali is an affectionate, shy, mellow, independent cat. She has a medium activity level and likes sleeping. She will be in the same room as you and enjoys playing with balls. She is indoors only and sleeps anywhere. She eats dry food Purina cat chow that is available to her all day. She enjoys temptations treats and is litter boxed trained. She used an uncovered litter box and clumping litter. She uses a carpet scratching post.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 1/2/18 Observed Behavior -timid. allows exam. handler reported she hissed in cage
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Cali remains tense, crouched position at the back of the cage turned sideways during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Cali becomes alert with normal shape eye .
Reaction to cage door opening:: Cali remains immobile in place.
Reaction to touch:: Cali sniffs the assessor’s hand then allows the touch along the body. She began to show interest by lifting up her hind legs into the petting, but after a few strokes she hisses to stop the interaction.
