03/11/17 14:23 Basic Info Brussels A1105910 is a female brown tabby with torbie accents DSH feline who was found along with two other cats Okra A1105911 & Pinto A1105912 in an auto repair shop in the Bronx a little while before being brought in. The finder stated they’re a cat lover who was concerned about the cats well being and thought it best for them to be brought in to us especially because they believe the trio are sick. The finder was able to lure them into a cat carrier with food and bring them into our care center. Behavior during Intake During intake Brussels allowed all handling however at times attempted to flee. She allowed to be scanned (-), collared and have her picture taken. She was picked up/held and placed into a kennel with ease.
03/21/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Brussels is the definition of a cool cat. She is very relaxed and a good listener. When we were hanging out, I just spoke to her about random nonsense and it seemed like she was actually listening to what I was saying. I want to point that Brussels does have scarring in her left eye, but she doesn’t seem bothered by her disability. She is a beautiful cat and I got the impression that she is fully aware of that. Brussels is a cat who is unbothered by small inconveniences and is just living her life.
03/16/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Brussels was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. She was found in an auto shop with two other cats. Her finder was able to lure her into a carrier with cat food in order to bring her to the care center. She allowed all handling during intake, but has attempted to flee at times. She allowed the counselor to pick her up and hold her with ease. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – allows handling, nervous. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Brussels was lying down in her litter box, calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Brussels looks at the assessor with almond-shaped eyes, and then averts her gaze. Reaction to cage door opening: Brussels remains soft motionless. Reaction to touch: Brussels remains completely still and accepts petting. She appeared indifferent, but also seemed uncomfortable. She closes her eyes and remains in place throughout the interaction. Reaction to pick up: Brussels was tense during pick up, but remains calm when held. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid, Independent POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: – Fearful – Brussels has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and appeared a little shut down. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced cat parent – Brussels tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
